The new clock rules in college football didn't shorten the games by much

Games last season lasted on average three hours and twenty-seven minutes. Last night the games lasted on average three hours and twenty-four minutes. No change in the amount of commercial breaks or time in commercial breaks either.

Have to pay those big TV deals so UCLA women’s underwater basketweaving can fly to Rutgers for a Tuesday night matchup.

I really have to question how much you pay attention to the games you are watching if you think losing 3 minutes is no big deal.

There are sooooo many all time great comebacks that instantly go away if you lop off 3 minutes.

They succeeded in making college football even more boring.

Or maybe I shouldn’t base my opinion entirely on the Notre Dame game lolollllollolol

I am pretty sure without the clock stopping on first down, we are going to see more “injuries” as well as the refs having to take official time outs to review some stuff they normally would have had time to do a quick pass over without needing to stop the clock in past years.

Also in such a small sample size I wonder how much that interminable review of the onside kick in USC-SJSU skewed things.

It’s simple: Less football, more commercials.

I can't believe people really expected them to.

Lower division games don't last forever. Games involving the service academies sometimes finish under 3 hours. Hell, when LSU had games on TigerVision, games would last around 3.

Everyone knows the networks and their commercial breaks are the problem. The rule changes are stupid.

Ridiculously small sample size to draw any sort of conclusions. Besides, I’m much more concerned with number of plays run than I am how long the games run on tv. That was/is my worry.

The game is still 60 minutes long

Yeah, but you’d get more plays in with 3 extra minutes of “real” time. I’m curious if the about of plays run will become drastically less. If games start averaging 10-20 plays less a game, then it’s clearly going to change some chances at comebacks.

SEC on CBS has the shortest games with fewest commercials ever. They should stick to that format for all college football games

The pass happy offenses are the problem with incompletions stopping the clock.

I've seen Badgers games with no commercials for most of the first quarter due to 3 yards and a cloud of dust playcalling.

Lets see how many plays it takes away from the offense over the course of a season.
