I just want to say one thing. Herman is for real.

He had a game plan that fought all of our strengths. Chaisson was all but shut down. Their offense had us on our toes. They were ready.
But Joe Burrow had other plans...

I don't doubt he is a capable play caller. He is. But LSU was very passive, and missed a lot of tackles. Some of the credit certainly goes to their offense, but it was a poor game plan by Aranda, IMO. In the first half, they did a lot of bending, but managed not to break, for the most part. They waited till very late in that first half to break out some blitzes, and it was highly effective. But, inexplicably, the staff seemed to learn nothing from that.
In the very few instances where they brought a blitz in the second half, it worked. The secondary held the deep ball in check. They just couldn't cover the intermediate, because Ehlinger had a clean pocket and too much time for his guys to get open.

Yep. Too many missed tackles. It drove me crazy. Texas was more physical on both sides of the ball.

Chaisson was all but shut down.

He called a great game. He made chaisson's aggressiveness an advantage for himself

I have to agree, Herman is a good coach. I'm confused where you specifically feel like Chaisson was shut down at??
5 tackles
4 solo
1sack
1hurry
1 tfl
He did well.
They did keep him on notice but overall he did a good job considering the schemes they had to knock him out of the plays.

Stats don't tell all. They threw numerous passes right behind chaisson's blitz. Chaisson had a great game, no doubt. But herman was targeting him for sure

Nice. Thanks for the numbers. Chaisson had a decent night I guess. But not as productive as I would hope he can be. I definitely expect more hurries and sacks out of him. I mean, 1 hurry? He can do better than that.

Yea I get what ya mean and I agree but for being targeted so much to outcast from where the ball was going he did a great job.
Top 10 in tackles tonight and handled the pressure well i thought.
Could have tackled better and made better angles towards the ball handler for sure.

I mean, what are we comparing Chaisson to? I expect him to be the next Devin White. 5 tackles? 1 hurry? we need more out of him. But i think Herman knows he's our x factor on D and planned for it.

He is a top notch big name coach, but like when he was at UH, don’t judge him solely on big games. His biggest flaw to this point in his career is he shits the bed a couple times a year against teams he should beat.

Y’all can say what y’all want about Chaisson being held but they aren’t gonna call a hold on every play.
Was he held on some plays? Yes but there’s holding on every play technically.
He needs to improve imo because he’ll see better LTs when we get in conference

quote:True. Are we a team he "should" have beaten? Time will tell. Texas had every chance in the world to win this game. They didn't. It wasn't because of gameplan tho. I really do not think they had an answer for Burrow. Maybe nobody does. They had an answer for everything else though. It was a battle.

We are all focusing on Chaisson. When we stunted him, he was great. But straight rush, he got handled. Defensive game plan wasn’t great and too many missed tackles.
We played a really good team and won. Learn from it, keep winning, and let’s see what this team can do.

I don't disagree with anything you said. Chaisson may be an unfortunate target.
The bottom line is, our defense was picked apart. I am of the opinion that the reasoning is because the coach we were facing. Time will tell though.
I can guarantee you we will not face a better offensive mind than we faced tonight.

There actually wasn't as much scheming for Chaisson as you think. That LT won the 1 on 1's almost every time. BUT...looked like the refs missed a few holding calls on him.

Too many linebackers on receivers

He may have had a plan. But his plan was shite. Stopped at the goal line twice, turnover on down, idiotic (almost Les like) timeout that gave us a shot for a touchdown.
He tried to come out in the first and prove something, he failed miserably and got stuck playing catch-up the rest of the game. He’s not a good coach. Herman sucks and Texas ain’t loyal, he’ll be gone after the 2021 maybe 22 season.

Texas was holding on every play

quote:. Agreed. It was a very bad performance all around by the defense. Coaches and players. It was very frustrating and surprising. It is concerning.
