So with BKs comment about Perkins. Is he setting the tone that players development to play at the next level is more important than winning. That is how I took it.

I understand trying to utilize a player in different ways to help with development BUT never at the expense of the team.

Perk is a year two guy, and really only half a year of experience. Work him into some LB packages over the course of his career here... dont neuter the guy though

I think Perkins and or those advising him want certain things and Kelly is trying to keep him happy.

Kids also care about NFL aspirations, ya know.

He shouldn't have mentioned that at all. I get wanting to prepare kids for the NFL, but if it at all lessens LSU's chance of winning football games, it needs to be put on the backburner.

Did you read the entire quote or just picked a piece of the comment out of context?

I think that is a recruiting tactic. You want to be able to sell that you develop talent that goes and plays at a high level at the next level. Just like you have to sell getting a college education to family members. The last thing I think you want to be known as is someone who mishandles talent or only cares about winning at this level.

You do realize a massive part of a kid's recruiting decision is often how they will be developed for the next level?

It's very similar to a coach that throws elite arms into the ground in baseball. Do that to a few top arms and see if you keep getting them in the future.

Yeah, I feel like with BKs comments it was more so a recruiting "promise" being kept..

Maybe he was told he would give him the opportunity to play in the middle.

It obviously didn't work game 1, so that is why now they are "trying to find balance" of Perkins future vs team needs.

I’m pretty sure putting a player in a position to be one of the best playmakers in all of college football would be a lot more effective in setting him up for future success in the NFL than attempting to make him a conventional middle linebacker.

LOL. Did any of you watch the TAM and GA game. He was a non factor. They schemed around him. He needs to learn the LB position. They should have waited till Grambling game to start but anyone who thinks he will continue to dominate just on the edge didn't watch the last few games last year,

Why do people act like Perkins cannot play in the middle? I agree you move him around but it's not like he's incapable of playing in the middle. He's basically the same size as Patrick Queen and he became a 1st rounder in the middle.

ETA: Not saying Perk shouldn't play on the edge alot, just saying he's not too small to play in the middle.

Yes I do. Do you not think that there is a need for edge rushers in the NFL?

This board killed O for selling NFLSU as a recruiting tactic.

Haven't past coaches been criticized for doing just that; putting more emphasis on "the next level"?

How important, exactly is a college education when the family 's dreams are all wrapped up in the multi-million dollar NFL contracts?

How many families do you think believe that their son isn't good enough for the NFL?

He is out of position. Period. Stop trying to make him something he is not.

His play Saturday didn’t help his draft stock.
