Wtf??? Are you under the impression that we haven't been ranked #1 since then?

When he was ~24 years old and had just left Point Loma Nazarene?
That would have been bold

Yeah he'd have been ready to take over LSU at 24 years old.

Paul Mainieri was a very successful coach at LSU. Extremely successful and what he did after Smoke was dismissed is pretty comparable to what Jay Johnson has done.
2007 was meh, 2008 we had the streak, 2009 we won it all.
2017 may have been different had Walker not gotten injured right as Omaha was starting.
He had some years where we underperformed but he was extremely successful and should be commended for his time.
When his dad died, it seems his passion also died. But that’s ok. It happens to all coaches.

NILSU would have gotten Paul a couple more Natties. CalState Fullerton, Whichita St, etc. NIL era heavily favors the 1%-ers. Whoever is coach at LSU, has more of an advantage to any of his predecessors.

Is this just a troll to step on an ant pile?
Seems like clockwork LSU baseball is hot and you roaches come from out the dark to say some off the wall shite.
Go frick off back where you’ve been.

It was similar with Les when his mom died.

You aren’t showing any smarts with a post like this.

Paul was extremely successful in what will have been the most difficult Era to win at a school like LSU. I'm glad that the small ball Era is over with.

As opposed to the national championship, hall of fame coach that took over after smoke ran it in to the ground? The game changed and he was successful. The left the program better than he entered it. Jay hasn’t won anything yet and Paul had monster regular seasons that didn’t end in a championship.

His first 4-5 years were great. Once they started fricking with the game/balls/bats he didn't adapt well.
I was ready for a change but I'm not gonna pile on the guy.

LSU isn’t who they are, without what Skip and Paul built

Didn't his sister also die in like some freak accident?

Granted he wasn’t Skip but he won an SEC title, went to a super and Omaha twice. I’d hardly say he “ran it into the group”

Just be glad we have a hungry young coach that loves LSU. He was diffidently a home run hire. Should have our tigers in position to be great for years to come and make a run at USC's record for most cws wins. Great times are coming for our beloved baseball team.

2005 was the first year we lost a regional in the 4-team format and then 2006 was the first year we missed out on the tournament altogether since 88.

This is like saying Saban should’ve been Charlie Mac’s replacement. Timing is important.
