Considering Hurds outing, I think Little has deserved the start. Your thoughts?

I would rather have Little out of the pen for multiple games this weekend than starting a midweek game against a team that is winless.

Start hurd again. Need to get him going. Game doesnt matter that much

Too many people on here giving up on dudes after one bad outing in their LSU debut.

Floyd looked great on Sunday and JJ said on Mik’d Up we could see him start this year at some point. I could see him getting a midweek start (assuming he isn’t used too much over the weekend) and eating up some innings for us in Austin if needed

This board cant wait to anoint any hitter that has a great day and any pitcher who struggles. Guess they just cant help themselves

And JJ said tonight Hurd could start and yesterday said Cooper could start and Floyd could start and Little got the game ball today, he could start lol
He basically said he isn’t going to tip his hand again like he just did with Hurd & Southern

Well yeah. That’s why we’re here speculating. So one of us can be retroactively proven correct and then bump this thread in 8 days saying “I called it!”

I don't see JJ wanting to repeat last year. He's going to give little, shores, Floyd, and Hurd starts between now and SEC play and see who wants it. Little could be an elite reliever but it's wide open right now.

I like little out of the pen for now.
It's a little too early to bail on Hurd. Had a bad outing, but it really wasn't that bad. I was listening to the game so I didn't see it, but it sounded like he was just having trouble placing the fast ball, then when he found it he didn't stray too far from the plate.

Hurd was rusty. He has really good stuff. Once he gets his location smoothed out he will be a beast.

Dude was injured. First outing in a while and he was rusty. With a guy like that, the early season results aren’t the tell. It’s the stuff. If the stuff is good, you get him reps to get back dialed in.

He struggled with location but didn't have too many hard hit balls. A couplr flares and seeing eye ground balls, all singles.

You let Hurd go back out there. You don’t just yank a guy after one bad outing. Jay Johnson set up his pitching to start the season for Hurd to start against Texas. If he struggles again then you may have to reevaluate but trust the process you set up for yourself to start the season.
In the long run the Texas game will not make or break LSU’s season. You can afford to give him another shot.

Stick with the plan. If CJJ thinks Hurd is this season’s long-term answer as the second starter then keep working the plan. Who cares whether we beat Texas? I care about having the team at peak performance in May/June.

The fact he made him the midweek starter tells you that he wanted him to pitch the next midweek game which is Texas.

Or it just tells you he’s the midweek starter behind the weekend guys for now, and Texas happens to be in the midweek.
It is interesting Johnson chose to extend Little beyond the point of the game being competitive yesterday.

I get it wasn’t a great start for Hurd. But, towards the back end of the outing he had a 19-4 strike to ball ratio. His pitch count just got too high and he was one his 3rd time through the line up.
There was a lot to like. His Velocity was consistent throughout, sitting 94-96 with the FB. He’s got some really good offspeed pitches as well. I’m sure nerves played a part in the poor start and once it starts poor it’s tough to recover.
All that to say I think he’ll be fine and ultimately end up in the weekend rotation once he gets his mojo back.

I think I’ll trust Wes Johnson.
