Gotta love the spin from the unnamed booster in that article. The SEC wanted to talk to Missouri last year but they said no....Now we're back hat in hand asking for another chance

This is a curious article...not sure how much I believe it. Mizzou wanting to appear that it has leverage, and that the SEC is the aggressor. Could be a way to light a fire under Big Ten's butt to get them to invite Mizzou...Just not sure I am buying the article...

Mizzou will stay in the West as FSU and VT are added from the East.
I hope not.
I need baby steps. I wasn't 100% sold on expanding to begin with. let's get comfortable at 14 and see how things pan out before we jump to 16 IMO.
TexasA&M was the big get here, and I'm glad the SEC got the Ags. But I don't think there's any reason for the best conference in the land to go off the deep end in some mythical rat race when we are already on the top of the mountain.

thought this was a race to 16?
I hope not. Honestly I think conferences are going to get to 14 and then wait for each other to make the next move which isnt going to come. Pac 12 take ou osu. UT creates the Ut conference Big 10 takes ND and someone else (possibly UT and the big 12 left overs get absorbed to the big east). And it stables out for 5-10 years

Agreed.....Definitely a lot of spin at the very least.

I'm with you. I think they want to go to the Big 10 and I'm sure Slive will not rush to save their arse if they don't get an invite.

It is interesting that this would put the SEC in Big Ten country...studs athletes in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Illinois would not have to go far to play in the SEC.
Definitely shakes things up in that region...if this is true.

That could be said for the nature of all the conferences that are added to 16 or whatever. They would all reach out into areas that have never been previously done.

Chad, I guarantee you that playing in the SEC is a selling point that coaches use...the SEC football brand is so strong right now, and kids coming out of high school have seen the SEC win the title the last five years. That will resonate with many kids.
But my point was that Mizzou will now have a strong selling point to recruits that live in Missouri and the surrounding states.

The internal battle between culture, sports and academics there will be intriguing. Mizzou gains a major recruiting edge in the Midwest as an SEC school. But do powers-that-be be prefer to wait it out for hopes of the "prestige" of the B1G?

I wasn't meant to be in disagreement with you. I agree with it. Same with Texas A&M. Kids don't have to leave the state anymore to play in the SEC. I don't see how these changes benefits the schools already in the SEC though. That's what disappoints me.

This has got to be one of the biggest considerations the SEC made. The B1G has been doing everything they can to get back on top of the college football world. The SEC should naturally want to curtail that.

I am not sure this is not a well timed leak to push the Big Ten into action. If so, this is by far the most brilliant thing Mizzou has ever done. We all know where they really desire to play. The wooing of the Big Ten continues...

Mizzou would be too natural of a fit for Nebraska entering the Big Ten. I'm calling out the conspiracy theory as well.

Auburn and Alabama to the east, Kentucky to the west
The precious Alabama/Tennessee, Auburn/Georgia, and Alabama/Auburn rivalries are preserved.

But, we are not THAT dependent on Texas recruits. I know we get important players from there, but who is to say that we wouldn't still get them with A&M in the conference?
Does anyone have a breakdown on where our players have come from in the last 5 years?

Cash, no way the league does that. The SEC East would be too loaded in football. I think that Mizzou goes to the East in the short term.
