So is the SEC looking for # 14 before it officially invites A&M?

I do think this is the case as well.

i thought aTm had to remove itself legally from the Big12, then SEC could extend an invite to them.

But, before this happens, the SEC prefers to already have the 14th team doing the same, removing itself from it's current conference before receiving an invite from SEC.

Yes, I think this is the case. The legal argument that the Ags are throwing out there is just to save face from the fact that the SEC isn't going to take them until there's a viable and equally attractive 14th team that will come. 0% chance we play a season with 13 teams.

There is no way this happens, you have to have an equal number of teams for a conference championship game. You are just blindly hoping that is what Slive said.

Believe what you want. I'm just telling you what has been reported by multiple inside sources on the A&M side.

But I'm sure you know better than they do

A&M is leaving the Big XII. If the SEC doesn't extend an invite (which it will) A&M would look to the Pac-12 or Big 10. The SEC isn't going to let the Texas market slip away. They take us all day every day and twice on Sunday

Are you sure about that?

The only rule I know of in regards to a CCG is that a conference must have at least 12 teams to have one.

And I don't know why some are making the 13-team deal some sort of "issue" as it's not. If the SEC invites A&M, it is inevitable that the league is going to 14 or 16 teams, so why does it matter if the league stands at 13 for a year or two while the other addition is finalized?

The MAC has had some seasons with 13 members as well as a conference game, though for the life of me I couldn't tell you how they made it work.

This was in one of the recent seasons where they'd lost teams to C-USA but had brought in Temple.

I really think this is the case. Outside of the Univ of Texas, no other team will bring that much to the television rights at A&M

It wouldn't be difficult at all, which is why I'm confused as to why some are making a big deal of it.

7 teams in the West, 6 teams in the East. Everyone, regardless of division, will play 8 conference games (no different than now). The West teams play 6 games vs West teams, and 2 games vs East teams. The East teams play 5 games vs East teams and 3 games vs West teams.

The only difference is that the East teams will play one more cross-division game than West teams. Not really that big of a deal considering it'll only be for a year or two. It wouldn't affect permanent cross-division matchups at all. The Western division teams would merely lose one cross-division game (from 3 to 2).

JP, the math doesn't work on that. If 6 East teams are playing 3 West games each, that's a total of 18 inter-divisional games. On the other hand if 7 West teams are playing 2 East teams each, that is a total of 14 inter-divisional games. 14=\=18

I'm not saying it can't work, but it's definitely not an easy scheduling issue.

good point, didn't even think of that, I guess that they would have to lose the "all division teams play the same # of cross division games" to make it work.

some teams could have 1 more or 1 less cross-division games than some other division members.

I agree with this. Hope that is what is happening.

ETA - I don't think is a Mizzou or another "western" team. I think they want a FSU/Miami or a UNC or a VT. :FingersCrossed:
