just throwing it out there, but a north-south split could be very balanced

north- missouri, kentucky, vandy, tenn, bama, georgia, arkansas

south-lsu, miss st, tex am, florida, south carolina, auburn, ole miss

then uphold old rivalries with permanent opponents

bama-auburn
missouri-tex am
miss st-uk
tenn-south carolina
lsu-ark
georgia- florida
vandy-ole miss

This is the kind of radical thinking that needs to happen.

Not saying it should be this.

Mizzou should go to east IMO

At least the North South divisions in the OP make geographical sense. Mizzou to the east would be like the PAC-12 putting Washington state in the south. Sure it may be a quick solution, but it looks really stupid.

SEC South will be extremely tough assuming Mullen stays at MSU and TAMU builds on the TX talent they will steal from the longhorns. The only shitty team in the division will be Ole Miss.

That's tough.. yet not a bad setup.

SEC north would have 2 basketball schools that may compete well enough in football to play spoiler once a decade.

Auburn would not want to give up our longest rival in UGA. That and the Bama UT rivalry is big.

Missouri wants the west.

Anything you do makes scheduling a mess.

I think there should be 9 conference games...and on the years you get 5 home games your able to be creative with scheduling tough oc games.... When you only have 4 home sec games, you could schedule the home end of your oc games.

Ummm..not bad but..S. Carolina should be in North and Bama in South.

Then you really keep everything intact.

Only if you keep cross divisional rivalries.

Also, divisions are more unbalanced that way.

Gotta say one of the best setups I have seen yet, although I would hate to lose the bama game, think i would like to keep bama south, but this way does keep a good balance. No way of bringing bama south and having florida LSU and bama in one division and it be fair, maybe put vandy and bama south and south carolina and auburn north.

Try labeling SCers "Northern" of any kind and see what kind of reaction you get.

Still don't keep UT/Bama. I don't think you need to realign divisions to do that.

You can't worry about current situations; you have to look at traditional powers. Things even out, programs rise and fall. Moreover, isn't the West extremely tough right now?

The north south split is not a bad idea, but I can already see Aubie complaining about their Tenn rivalry. It is really the two Bama schools with too many rivalry stipulations. Maybe, they could make a 6 and 6 East/ West or North South division and then let the 2 Alabama crybabies play whoever they want.

What we have to realize that with this expansion , rivalry games will be lost, its just a fact, sad thing to see but i guess new rivalries will develop

Auburn doesn't have a huge rivalry with Tennessee, Bama does. Auburn's biggest rival in the current eastern division, that we would hate to lose, would be UGA. Second behind that would be Florida, from the days of only a 10 team SEC and the few years of 2 permanent cross division games (UGA was one, UF was 2).

I actually like the OP's division with one small tweak.

Move UGA to the south and either Ole Miss or USCe to the north.

You would then have:
north- missouri, kentucky, vandy, tenn, bama, arkansas, ole miss

south-lsu, miss st, tex am, florida, south carolina, auburn, georgia

You could then do for permanent cross divisional games:
AU/Bama to keep the Iron Bowl
MSU/Ole Miss to keep the Egg Bowl
LSU/Arky to keep the golden boot trophy game going

You also keep 3rd Saturday in October, Deeps South's Oldest Rivalry and the Cocktail Party going because teams would be in the same division. The only thing you would lose is Tennessee vs either Florida or Georgia.

Also, unless the SEC rules change, certain games like the Iron Bowl and Egg bowl would have to be moved back from the traditional last game of the season.

The conference is getting too big for these permanent cross divisional games to continue. I think you guys (in particular AU, AL, GA, TN and to an extent FL) need to decide how important these games are. If they are sacrosant, then all of you need to be in the same div and should live with the consequences. SC, KT, and Vandy then could draw lots on who gets to come to the west.
