A Bama fan on texags.com has posted that The Birmingham News' publisher is a "barner" and that they have an agenda. I will have to google barner to find out what that means.

From what I can tell the issue is about whether Mizzou joins the west and Auburn moves east, which is what Auburn wants or Mizzou joins the east, which is what Bama wants.

FWIW, I think this "leak" all comes back to the potential lawsuits.

SEC is covering its tracks again....."Look, we didn't go out seeking Mizzou....Alot of our people don't even want Mizzou...They reached out to us and needed a home."

Very similar to the A&M situation IMO. SEC is proceeding slowly, and you will not see a Mizzou announcement until it is solidified that the Big12 is staying together regardless. I'd imagine the day after you hear WVU/BYU/etc to the Big12 you'll hear the official announcement of Mizzou to the SEC.

The one thing that map doesn't propose is moving Bama AND Auburn to the East while pushing Vandy into the West. I personally wouldn't like that move (as an LSU fan)...but if Bama and Auburn are that worried about maintaining rivalries with Tennessee and Georgia, respectively, this could solve that problem.

But why move both Alabama and Auburn to the East and Vandy to the West when all you have to do is add Missouri to the East? It's insane to me how people are so willing to move heaven and earth to accomodate 1 newcomer with a nice, but quite average football history. Frick the fact that both Alabama and Tennessee are charter members of the SEC and have BY FAR one of the 2 oldest continuous rivalries in the SEC. The sentiment on this board by some seems to be:

Missouri football program>>>>>>>>>>>>>Alabama program>Tennessee program

All the speculation is pointless...If Mizzou joins the SEC, Auburn is moving East and Alabama-Tenn on an annual basis is over.

The details have already been worked out.

Okay, apparently "barner" is a derogatory term that Bama fans use for Auburn. Bama thinks Auburn printed this story to make Bama look bad and allow Auburn to move east. Bama doesn't want to lose their rivalry game with Tennessee and thinks that Auburn wants to move east because it is easier.

It's interesting to marry into the family and learn that every conference has bickering.

I think the story had less to do with Auburn/Bama and more to do with getting the word out that the SEC is not falling head over heels for Mizzou.

In other words, get the word out that Mizzou wants the SEC and not the other way around.

Don't really understand your post. Seems like nothing would change if Missouri just went East, other than maybe adding another conference game.

The problem with Mizzou to the East for them is losing an annual game in Texas if A&M is not their annual cross-over game. Recruiting is Texas has been vital to their recent winning ways. And Arky may blow a gasket if they don't get Mizzou as a yearly opponent.

If the addition is just Mizzou, Bama and Auburn are not both moving East...there is a 0% chance that happens.

The only way you will ever see both move East is if the SEC adds Mizzou/OU/OklSt

The SEC is not putting 5 of the Big6 in one division unless there is an elite power or two added in the West.

That x-div game has to go away. It's just a matter of time if you want to be a conference. It doesn't matter which side MO is on. If AL, TN, AU, GA, and FL all want to play a subset of each other every year, then they need to be together.

This. The discussion about Bama and Auburn wanting to continue their rivalries with their dedicated East Division rivals is based on the assumption that a 14-team SEC would eliminate those dedicated rivalries. No more LSU/Florida or USC/Arkansas every year. This would eliminate the Bama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia match-ups. If this is the case, they can keep the rivalries going if Vandy moved into the West (assuming Mizzou is the 14th) while Bama and Auburn go East. I'm not sure how many UT fans really care about playing Vandy yearly or vice-versa.

Again, I don't care for this idea because I like LSU playing UF, Bama and Auburn every year.

You do realize that Mizzou is 2-1-0 against Bama and Bear Bryant was their bitch. That includes the prison rape Mizzou gave Bama on national television.

Wow Bama lost two games against them, oh no. Let's see what else has happened in the last 50 years.

- Bama has won several nat'l titles and even more SEC titles.

- Mizzou has won zero nat'l titles. Mizzou has won zero conference titles. Even though they played in a conference with only seven other teams for 35 of those years, they still could not win one conference title.

I'll take the 1-2 record along with the rest of the results and be quite satisfied.

Bama gets everything it wants and always has. I don't give a shite if you ever play AU or TN again personally. Bama could move to the acc and no one in the west would give a rats arse!

Would love to see this. I love the LSU Vs. UA/AU/FL games and would miss them terribly. Mizzou can head east young man......
