One source said there's a group of presidents that wants to sit tight, believing the SEC can do better than Missouri and that No. 14 should come from the East. According to both sources, Alabama wants to look East and not risk losing its annual game against Tennessee, while Auburn favors adding Missouri and moving to the Eastern Division.

I just don't see a good way to do this without ending some key rivalries or creating divisions that would be historically uneven. But if it is just for a few years until the next round of additions. If you added both Oklahoma schools, you could get comfortable moving both bama schools to the east.

I'm still not a fan of Mizzou and think they fit better with the BIG.

Just looking at the map, the obvious choice is to lure someone from NC.

Roll Tide, keep those bums out.

Why would the mighty SEC want a school that prefers a different conference(Big10)? Think they will not jump ship the moment they get an offer from the Big10.

I'm an Auburn guy and I can see some advantages to going to the East, but I'd prefer to stay where we are and get another team for the SEC East. The ACC is loaded with candidates I would prefer over Mizzou: FSU, VT, Clemson or NC State.

Missouri isn't awful. As discussed at length they bring in new markets and are decent academically, I just don't think they are a great "fit".

The ONLY thing I miss about the SWC is our rivalry with Texas. I can understand bama fans feeling that way, however they already have fricking Auburn so they need to just suck this shite up. Times change.

You do realize that Mizzou is 2-1-0 against Bama and Bear Bryant was their bitch. That includes the prison rape Mizzou gave Bama on national television.

Agree! Can you imagine the BIG moving in on Mizzou after they move to the SEC?! Mizzou would jump ship and BIG would do nothing but brag about stealing a team from SEC.

I guess with all these 60's nastalgia shows they are desparate to return to the 60's. It was a time we played AU once (after not playing them for 26 yrs), didn't play GA (in the middle of a 24 yr period of not playing), didn't play Vandy (we played once in a 24 yr period), and we played TN twice. What kind of fricking conference was that? And why do you want to return to it? The conference getting bigger means these x-div permanent games have to go.

That's easy for you to say given LSU has no true rivals in the conference. Yeah, Ole Miss . Not even in the same universe as Bama/UT or Auburn/UGA. It isn't just Bama either. I'd venture to say that Tennessee officials are even more against losing the Bama/UT game than Alabama officials.

How will you feel when both Alabama and Auburn go East and LSU loses BOTH games from their schedule? When/if this actually becomes a REALITY you will know how Alabama and Tennessee fans feel.

Mizzou would NOT rather be in the BIG. Look at the Article. He took one official (anybody that works for the school) with an agenda and was probably very selective in picking them. Everybody who matters is on board with the SEC. And as far as preserving Rivalries we can just be placed in the East.

Your post proves our point. Most of those games you mentioned apparently weren't big enough natural or historical rivals to insure that they were played year in year out. The Bama/UT and AU/UGA games are unique in that they've been played continuously for the better part of a century. Again, it would be like West Virginia joining the Big 12 and the other Big 12 members saying to heck with the Texas and Oklahoma game move on because "times change".

It's the most insignificant significant game there is.

Sounds like Alabama wants to preserve the third saturday while Auburn wants to end it.

I don't know if anyone has more info, but who are the other schools against this? I'd have to think Tennessee is.

I really hope they are willing to keep fighting until they know the rivalry is protected.

I suspect the real reason Alabama officials are against Missouri is because they are being sold as an SEC West addition with Auburn eagerly agreeing to go to the SEC East to accomodate. If Missouri insists on joining the SEC East therefore keeping Auburn in the West, then that opposition disappears.

The one thing that map doesn't propose is moving Bama AND Auburn to the East while pushing Vandy into the West. I personally wouldn't like that move (as an LSU fan)...but if Bama and Auburn are that worried about maintaining rivalries with Tennessee and Georgia, respectively, this could solve that problem.

Agreed. I'm more than willing to play in a tougher division for it. I understand why others wouldn't be, though.

Still, I'd prefer it to being forced to play an OOC game with Bama which I'm not even sure would be permitted.
