Hopefully Arkansas comes calling.

The problem with getting rid of Gus is it is a really big roll of the dice. What's the odds they find a replacement that will better what Gus has managed to do at Auburn? I think that's a mighty big if. I believe Auburn is stuck between a rock and a hard place. As 9 & 3 or 8 & 4 is about what Auburn's ceiling is. Given the current climate in the SEC West with the rise of Ed O and LSU, it's going to be extremely hard to find someone that can better Gus.

Auburn does lose those two talented D players I think.
And most of their offensive line.

Ed got lucky with Joe. Next year they will be average again.

Yellawood could cut that check in a heartbeat if he's seen enough.

Gus will beat an injury depleted, mentally checked out Alabama team and this will all be moot.

Auburn has shown that its ceiling is undefeated seasons and championships

I hate Auburn and loathe Malzahn, but this is stupid as hell.
They went undefeated and won a NC less than a decade ago, nearly won another one in 2013, and would have made the CFP two years ago if they hadn't shite the bed in the SECCG against Georgia.

Ironically that sounds alot like what people say about Gus and Nick Marshall in 2013

No, but do you think they would pay Arkansas $15 mil to take him off their hands?

Auburn fires Gus, they owe Gus 20 million +. Gus leaves Auburn, Gus or his new team owe Auburn 7 million or some such. Even if Auburn waives the buyout, Gus still loses the 20 something million Auburn would owe him if they fired him. Why in the hell would he do that?
Are you assuming he'll leave of his own accord and just sit at the counter at Waffle House all day without getting another job?

Which is irrelevant to the fact that if Auburn wants rid of Gus, they owe him a big pile of money. If your employer wanted rid of you, would you voluntarily go find another job, and owe your employer 7 million, or would you make your employer fire you, so they owe you 25 million?

Would that shatter the record for highest buyout ever?
You all dont follow the Auburn thinking. Why pay a huge buyout when you can just donate about half that to the boosters of the school that would take him off your hands...

No. Not unless Alabama totally embarrasses him with their backup. But if he gets another job would it still cost Auburn 26 mil?

No, but it would cost Gus that 26 million, which is why it is stupid to even contemplate Gus doing it. Auburn folks act like Gus would be so devastated because they don’t want/like him, that he will take a 25 million dollar hit to make way for their new coach.

A quick google search said Willie Taggart has been paid the largest buyout at $18M by Florida State.
Then you didnt search well enough.
Notre Dame paid Weis nearly $19 million to go away. SOUTH BEND – The final tab is in: Former Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis ended up receiving $18,967,960 from the university as a buyout for being fired in 2009.

That said I dont think that Auburn fires Gus in 2019.
2020 is a different story though.
Our main two rivals are on the road where Gus has never won, and our OL (OT specifically) is going to be in a REALLY rough spot next season.
It will take the best coaching of his career for Gus to be successful in 2020.
Gus lost his mojo in the 2014 aTm game. He hasn't found it since. I certainly dont expect him to suddenly regain that "it" factor he had prior to 2014 aTm which is what I think would be required for him to survive 2020 and the disaster he created at OT.

If we fire him yes.
He can double dip. His buyout is not negated by new employment.
The contract was done when we had no AD. The president who bent over and took it from Sexton is no longer employed by the University.
Likewise our current AD did not hire Gus, and has not extended him a single time. He was saddled with the absurd contract.
