Penn St isn’t as good a program as TAMU

Penn State is a borderline blue blood and the king of the northeast. Texas A&M isnt on that level They are a mediocre football school with significant resources and can certainly pay him if they want but PSU is a more prestigious job.

When I was a kid I had a Christmas wish list too. I never got that pony. Both those names are at premier SEC schools with TAMU rising fast due to Elko being at the helm. Why leave a good gig for a shite show.

Plus Deboer has no ties to the NE and has developed massive inroads here in the South. I am not sure Elko's background. It would be hard to leave the SEC for a program that has to rebuild. I suspect the portal going out of PSU gets a lot of traffic

The only way DeBoer leaves is if he either hates living in the South or has realized that the pressure to succeed at Alabama is much, much higher than he was expecting. But I don't think the pressure at PSU would be much less, honestly, considering they just fired a guy three weeks after he had a team ranked in the top 5. So it comes down to the "hates living in the South" thing.

Why would either leave? They both have solid programs in the playoffs and have no problem getting recruits and portal dudes. They will get big extensions. A&M will throw money at Elko. Plus he knows the money they have for the portal.

It’s not really that hot. Penn State has a MASSIVE fanbase up and down the entire east coast and beyond. There is no reason they can’t be borderline Ohio State level under the right leadership.

I get that Louisiana is closer to Texas AM but nationally it’s not close. With Elko being from there I have to imagine it’s very appealing.

I don't think they are "borderline".

A&M has unlimited money and maybe the worst little brother syndrome in all of college athletics.

If they thought someone was going to steal a head football coach from them that they really liked, they will just reset the coaching salary market to stop it.

Such a little brother that we joined the SEC in 2012. Look who followed us.

Don't fall for the aggies having some magical amount of money. Last search Bjork publicly stated they had to cut costs in football leading them to first settling on Stoops and then Elko for $7 million. To beat/match what PSU will offer it will require ~$12 million a year based on Rhules and Cignettis extensions. That means the aggies would be all in around $20 million per year with Elko and Jimbos contract until 2031 just for HC salaries. Their incentive based contract is cute until somebody comes calling.

Secondly Trev Alberts has been on the job 15 months or so and has lost a top 3 baseball coach to their biggest rival and a Texas born and bred basketball coach to Maryland. The odds of PSU pulling this off rises everyday that goes by without an extension.

Thirdly Elko is from NJ and grew up in an era where PSU was winning Championships and constantly in the top 10 just a few hours down the road. It should not shock anybody if his dream job.

Yup. Of course the little longhorn weighs in on A&M finances. Rent free in your head!

What you will ultimately understand is that us Aggies feel great here in the SEC. We didn't have firework shows when we joined. We didn't celebrate it like we expected to be here.

Think about that. You have single handedly ruined the SWC and the Big 12 conference. The SEC conference is too big and powerful for you to ruin it. We will eat your lunch. UGA will eat your lunch this week. Arky may eat your lunch next week. And we will eat your lunch in DKR. Just one more body bag zipped up.

Good luck and good riddance sip.
