What did he do that was so awful?

Turn his head to a few tattoos paid for by money made from autographed jerseys?

I mean that's forgivable in my mind... What else did he do? He lied about what he knew to protect himself and the program? Ok, people have a tendancy to hide when the light comes by... People learn...People repent

Jim Tressel is an outstanding coach... and seems to be a good person. He has been successful at every stop during his career.

I thought there was some stipulation that he could not coach in CFB for a couple of years or something? Could be wrong info.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show-cause_penalty

essentially he would be banned from coaching for a few years b/c all NCAA penalties would follow to whatever school hired him.

not worth the risk of hiring a guy that brings that with him.

any school that hires a coach with a show-cause order in effect can be penalized merely for doing so. Consequently, most schools will not even consider hiring a coach with a show-cause penalty in effect. For this reason, a show-cause penalty usually has the effect of blackballing a coach from the collegiate ranks for the duration of the penalty. Many coaches who are given such a penalty never coach again, even after the expiration of the penalty. The penalty is intended to follow a coach for violations that he had a role in committing.

wiki NCAA show clause

and thanks Dr RC

It may take a year or two for the smell to wear off.

Right now he has a tainted scent...like when you walk into a room and no one is there but you can tell someone just recently farted and left.

I hope not. Would be hard to see another color vest running up and down the sidelines of a different team.

Weird coming from an OSU fan considering you hired Urban.

Why, exactly? The man has a track record and established pattern of unethical and improper behavior.

I am not debating legality or morality but do you really think that what he did is not common nowadays in at least 50%(might be closer to 80%) of the schools?

In his case he got slapped with show-cause, Chizik didn't and neither did Kiffin, nor did Carroll and so many others.

The gains are far outweighing the risks of playing around with the rules and there are only going to be more coaches getting caught , simply because each one is going to force the others into going further.

He is already 60 and might just retire but I can see him at a lower level school in a few years.

This is not a flame war to belittle auburn or chizik. This happens in every school in the AQ conferences (maybe even the others) and there are simply too many ways to hide it but sometimes you get caught.

Even when you get caught, times are there when you can wiggle away - that would explain why there are so few show-causes on the NCAA list.

Pretty much everyone gets away with minimal sanctions - reductions in scholarships, visits, etc...

College football has reached enormous proportions and the pressure to win is too much , and when everyone is cheating, you can't do much by complaining and twiddling your thumbs.

Sad state to be sure but no one seems to be controlling it especially not the NCAA.

You are a complete moron. You do realize that the NCAA statement concerning Auburn was unprecedented, right?
