He's easily the best option, hands down

Now, would he have the ego to take that sort of demotion? Perhaps... there are strong rumors out there that his head coaching experience at Auburn was stressfull to the point that he would consider something with less responsibilty

Auburn is paying him $6 mil within 6 months so money is not something he really needs, and the LSU DC gig pays relatively well anyway

He could be our DC and sit back and wait for the Texas A&M job to open up in 2-3 years when Sherman inevitably fails... and he knows that at LSU he has enough talent to assure a good defense so that his stock will never drop

Why not Tubby?

I honestly don't think so. Plus, there are head coaching jobs available right now.

seriously? Are you really serious?
Is he serious?

What does Tubby have left to prove? Why does he need an extra $500,000/year? He is getting $6,000,000 over two years.
Next year he could name any HEAD coaching job he wants that opens up.
A defensive coordinator in the SEC is a stressful job too.

I think he's assuming Bill Belichick is going to turn down our DC offer. Bill would be better but . . . .

Like a 12 month paid vacation? I think he is looking to take a break from the pressure cooker that is SEC football. That won't hurt his stock either.

agree...but is there anything he REALLY wants right now? He is a southern dude and probably wants to stay down south... I can't imagine he'd jump into the stress of a head coaching gig right now at a place like Miss St. etc...

If the word is true that he is willing to take his $$$ from Auburn and lay low for a while and dodge the stress of another head coaching gig, then the LSu DC job has to be a cush option for him... how could he fail with the talent we have?

I think he would like a HC job like TAMU... he would be in a great position to wait for that or anything else appealing that comes up down the road...

What is really appealing to him right now??

I don't know how to say this any other way - use common sense. Tuberville will be one of the hottest available coaches, if not THE hottest. He certainly has more head coaching options than any of the recently dismissed coaches. He will either take a HC gig, or he will sit out and wait until next year. He will NOT coordinate in the meantime. He will NEVER coordinate in NCAA ball....ever.....again. He may coordinate in the NFL, but even that is unlikely.

Studio analyst for a year then weighing options regarding head coaching jobs available. Much more of a "cush option".

Why not Tubby?

Because I don't want to be on this DC carousel again next year or the year after. I want a guy to come in and be a fixture of this program and of the defense. Tubby wouldn't stay long enough to have a major impact.

IF Tubby were to end up as DC we would be back looking again in no time. The DC talent available might not be as good then either. I'd hate to say "I wish we would have gotten VK when we had the chance."

Tubs already knows that LSU's next DC is gonna be Slick Nick! Ever since the guy left LSU for Miami and realized he made a mistake, he's been looking for a way to come back.
He didn't come back last year when the job came open becuse he had been at Bama for just one year and didn't want to appear disloylal and make himself out to be a liar.
No sense in Tubby trying to get a slot alraedy filled!
