When people here say he isn’t a “cultural” fit here, wtf are you talking about? What about multiple playoff appearances with much more difficult academic requirements do you not understand? I personally think we need a complete culture change. If a certain portion of our fanbase is pissed when the hire gets made I will take it as a positive.

Kelly is a good HC. His record speaks for itself. He's also an acerbic horse's arse. No question the HC at Notre Dame is under a microscope. But ND isn't the national power that it once was and Kelly and his family doesn't have to live in a state where he is one of, if not the biggest celebrities in the state. ND recruits nationally because they have to recruit a different type of player. Can he come in an recruit well in the south? More importantly, how will he handle the INSANE level of expectations and attention given to the HC in Baton Rouge?

The ND coach lives in a fishbowl...but it's not the same as the LSU HC.

That said, I would be surprised if Kelly (or his agent) doesn't quietly inquire about the job. He has to recognize that for as good as he's been at ND...he just can't quite get the horses necessary to over take the best powerhouse programs when those programs are at their best (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St, etc).

The thought has to have crossed his mind that "I'm very close to a championship. With the right players I can overcome the one weakness I have at ND".

He likely would not be an overly popular choice down here (initially). But outside of Dabo, Saban and Urban Meyer, there probably isn't anyone with a better resume.

@Alt26 - I like your take. Frankly, that sounds exactly like Saban when he came down in 2000.

He's a no bullshite, show-me results type of guy. I think he could clean up our culture, will get good linemen here, and hopefully be left alone by the good ole boys.

At the end of the day I don't think he would be able to stand dealing with the people around LSU.

Would he be my first choice? Probably not. But assuming LSU can't get a guy like Dabo, Saban, Lincoln Reilly (and I don't think they can), name me another HC that has two playoff appearances and a NC game appearance over the last 11 years. And it's not like ND always plays a shitty schedule. The probably play as many, if not more, P5 opponents on a yearly basis than most teams.

The guy played for/won multiple championships at the D-2 level. He then went to CMU and made them a solid program before going to Cincinnati where in all three seasons he won 10+ games (something that had not happened there in a long time...maybe forever). He then became the HC at ND and within 3 seasons had a program who had greatly fallen off (from their standards) playing for a national championship.

He's won everywhere he's been. The fans here would not be excited....but it would be a HUGE coup for LSU to take a HC from ND who will have had two playoff appearances in the last 4 seasons with an outside chance for a 3rd this year

People should be banned for bringing up Brian Kelly's name. Never beat a top 5 team and like 3-8 vs top 10 teams. Tell me you want to lose big games without telling me you want to lose bug games.
