Why hasn't Miles fired Pelini for interviewing for Neb job

When you have a conference championship game coming up in 5 days? Easy to read between the lines; because he is leaving to.
I see this as the biggest sign that the UM deal is done, and Miles is keeping quite in order to try and keep his players as focused as possible and have him and the team go out on top.
I can respect that.

Pelini is going for his first job as HC. He doesn't have the stick to call when the interviews happen. Maybe Les wants him to get the job and as a coach he understands the timing is never good for someone.

He claims that Pelini did not interview with Nebraska. At least that is what he implied!

Nebraska will do what's best for Nebraska. Depending on whatever hiring/interviewing dynamic is going on over there, maybe a week is everything.

If you want to make hiring great assistance in the future impossible, start firing your assistants when they have a chance to progress in their career. You will attract good coordinators and assistants when they know they are with a head coach who wants to see them have great careers and will not stand in the way of opportunities that come to them.

Texastiger is exactly right. All good college head coaches started out as assistants at some point and they make promises to their coaches to help them move up the ladder. It goes with the territory. And when a school like Nebraska wants to interview you, you do it on their timeline, not yours.

Bertman said he wasn't even contacted about Pelini interview.
Pelini should be fired!
It is apparent the way the D played he didn't have them ready.
In hindsight it is clear he was busy preparing notes for his upcoming interview with Tom Osborne instead of preparing notes on how to stop Arkansas's offense...

I don't have a problem at all with Pelini interviewing but it's just silly for Miles to imply that he did not. Media outlets have reported this morning that Pelini was interviewed by Nebraska in Baton Rouge. A reporter asked about Bo flying up to Nebraska and Miles went along and said that he's been in Baton Rouge all along. Why not go ahead and admit he was interviewed because skirting around the truth regarding Pelini would lead one to believe that Miles is doing the same thing in regards to the Michigan job.

I agree that good coaches want their OC's or DC's move on to HC gigs, it makes them look good.
However, with a championship game coming up there should have been some discussions between the Universities regarding this. Apparently that has not happened, and I don't see how waiting one week is going to hurt Nebraska's search process.

The difference is that if Miles is going to be interviewed for the Michigan job he will wait until after the SEC Championship game or after the season is over.
Pelini just cost us a National Championship.
He didn't have the D ready to play and he did a poor job of making adjustments in the second half...

With all the openings coming up, it will behoove a school to get to the best available guys now b/c there are so many opportunities. If you wait (even a week), you might be left with the short stick. This way, Nebraska is beating everyone to the punch.

any HC worth a crap wants his assistants to get HC jobs, it is good for everyone involved
and did it ever occur to you that maybe they met with Pelini yesterday at the BTR airport? the plane was on the ground for two hours then flew to Atlanta. Miles said pelini never flew anywhere, but that doesnt mean he didnt meet with NU

Well put, Texas Tiger....some people don't understand loyalty....
While I don't have great feelings about the job Pelini's done the past month or so with his defense, I'm not shallow enough to think he doesn't deserve some freedom to talk with another team that's in a hurry themselves to find a new "HEAD COACH".....much more important than us losing a D Coordiator....especially one whom not too many of us care whether he goes or stays.

Exactly. Can't say I really enjoy the thought of Miles trying to be "slick" regarding these things. Doesn't fit the image I have of him as a "let it rip" kind of guy. But I think he just didn't want to get bogged down in that whole conversation and figured this was as good a way as any to shut it down. Worked too - no follow up questions about Bo interviewing closer to home.
