Because Riley just went to USC and Kelly left the historic Catholic University Notre Dame to go to LSU.

NIL, transfer portal, sports betting are all more detrimental than a college coach leaving a team that needs things to fall into place prior to getting blown out in another playoff game.

The uncomfortable truth that those media snobs don’t want to admit is that ND cannot compete with the best of the SEC for a NC. That’s why Kelly left.

You don’t see that Riley left after OU lost and was out of the playoff? Of course he didn’t just find out about USC was interested Sunday morning but he didn’t leave until the after they were out

Because the college football universe just felt the force change and even though they might not understand those feelings yet .... they will soon.

Because ND is 11-1 and could potentially make the CFP while OU was eliminated from contention last weekend

I get the that ND is still in the CFP mix(kinda)

There's no "kinda" about it.

Notre dame needs 1 upset and a Bama loss. That probably puts them in.

If you need backing to this statement, go check out Colin Cowherd’s and Joe Klatt’s comments since the Lincoln to USC report. They’re not only pumping up USC and Rilely but also telling everyone how great LA is compared to anywhere else.

The national media is mainly 50+ year old dudes that grew up only seeing ND on TV

Take Skip B, he was shocked that a coach…any coach would leave a storied program like ND.

What they don’t realize is ND doesn’t mean Jack shite to 17/18 year olds.

“CFB has a problem when a coach leaves ND”…but it’s ok for a coach to leave Oklahoma for SC

Because it's probably the final nail in the coffin to ND's legacy honestly. Kelly had a chance to compete, maybe for the next few years however unrealistic that was, and bring back the history. Now? ND probably never recovers. They can still be good, but this told all young coaches out there that ND will never win a championship even with a really great coach.

They'd need someone who builds a dynasty to get their allure back.

Moving from Norman to So Cal is a no brainer. Moving from Notre Dame to Baton Rouge has some people scratching their heads. Not hard to see why.

love ND, but have to think the media can't believe he's leaving ND for a "backward" place like Louisiana. but agree the difference in reaction is a short-sighted, up your own arse, click-bait, left-leaning take. Leaving OU for LA is a family/lifestyle decision but leaving ND for LSU is "outrageous"?... more of the same media bullshite.

Lol, you’ve never been to south bend.

South Bend is equivalent to Vidalia, but hey…chicago is 1.5hrs away lol

Because literally no one cares about USC football. ND more prominent than USC. LSU more prominent than OU.

ND > USC
LSU > OU

ETA: *Purple and gold glasses on* - media loves to crap on LSU any chance they get.

B/c the National media cucks 2 pride and joys are Notre Dame & USC. One one side they perceive USC just got a lot better and on the other side ND was weakened, so blame the coach to protect their pet.

Riley straight up lied and was checked out most of the season. Kelly was honest, yet blunt. Riley should definitely have more negative reaction, but I'm biased.
