Why does the CEO head coach even exist?

And I don't mean Coach Ed Orgeron.

Why would a P5 school pay Coach X (3-5 Million a year) to chaperone a high priced Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator, the success of which he is only moderately involved in?

This is literally the 2nd biggest trick the devil ever pulled.

When you hire a Defensive Coordinator as a head coach, you are normally saving money, by going out an hiring a young and oft under-experienced DCoordinator, to assist in the day-to-day of coaching the defense. Head Coach has tons of other responsibilities, and the DC makes his life a little easier. While going out and spending more money, on a guy that knows the other side of the ball to make up for his lack of knowledge.

And vice versa...

Why on Earth would you hire a head coach that doesn't specialize in either side of the ball very well, and pay him, and then on top of that have to go get 2 Coordinators who will be doing all the work, meaning you'd have to pay top dollar for them as well... and they have to answer to a guy that doesn't even understand the eccentricities of either job particularly well.

Seems like you'd be better off hiring the best OCoordinator and best DCoordinator and just giving them total oversight of their sides staff and get rid of the middle man.

Am I wrong? Am I playing checkers while LSU is playing chess? I'm so confused...

I'd beat Alleva at chess 9/10 times.

LSU leadership showed it's true colors today. And it sucks arse.

B/c at many schools the HC has to put up with a ton of other shite that isn't football related.

Places like Texas tend to need a CEO due to entitled arse boosters getting in way all the damn time.

You need a dude who can glad-hand and control all that other crap that goes along with the gig.

Florida State and Penn State did it because their figureheads could recruit like madmen but were too old to coach anything other than witness testimony to get their guys off the hook.

It's a good question. I don't know the answer. A head coach ought to have an expertise, one would think. I guess O knows defense.

The CEO model is antiquated. Of the last ten NC winning coaches only Miles and Chizik could even be considered to be CEO type and even that is arguable.

Why did LSU feel they needed another CEO after Miles?

The Miles experiment FAILED. Don't give me the '07 2 loss National Title... it failed.

Alleva wanted change, the Board wanted change, the fans wanted change...

And we hire a great recruiter who will surround himself with the best coordinators money can buy...

I mean, I love LSU, I bleed P&G, I'm Alum, I'll support the team, the coach, the University...

But you have got to be frickING KIDDING ME?

Beat him up? I'm fricking jealous. He is literally changing by staying the same. It's fricking brilliant. Just wait until you see O and Joey Freshwater or [insert top oc] arguing on the sideline or over the head set on a crucial play that O obviously over ruled him on... that failed miserably.

Seems we could have saved whatever we are paying O and give 3.5 million to our DC and OC....

Agreed. LSU wants to do it the CEO way. Clemson is probably the closest example with Dabo. Most don't prefer it that way. LSU does not want to tie up the money in a dominating figure at HC with expertise. Spread the money and accountability around with recruiting as the first priority for HC. We shall see if the LSU way is right or the vast majority of CFB is correct.

To be fair ( and really just Devil's Advocate here), IF Miles would have simply been a CEO HC and not interfered so much, he may have been even more successful than he was.

Just imagine LSU in the past 6 years with a quality QB coach and a playcaller who was both able and allowed to open up the offense just a little bit. Not full on Oregon. Just a bit.

In that scenario, LSU may have still lost mostly to Bama. But, that would be the only team I'd have been concerned about. And, even they would not have won the entire streak as now.

I just do not get the salary. Coach O goes from 600k to 3.5m just because? We don't even bother negotiate? LSU has all and then some of the leverage.

Would O really walk away from 3m? From even 2 million? So long as he had incentive if he won?

Thought it was his dream job?

It didn't fail. It's like a car. After a certain number of years it got old and became unrepairable. So it had to be replaced. But replacing it with the same old model that wore down quickly just doesn't make sense

You must be a joy to watch LSU football with.
Calling an NC a failure.

One of the worst I've seen on here and that's saying a bunch.
