There is NO way that we can get him close to the estimated $500k per year he makes with the Saints and not completely disrupt the pay structure for OC, DC, and other position coaches.

Keep in mind, good chance O will be let go with Gibbs and the majority of the Saints defensive staff next week.

Why? I would like to have Coach O. He and the entire Saints Defensive Coaching staff might get fired. Secondly, rumar has it, O makes about $500k -- With Assist HC, Recruiting, and DL, we can offer no more than $250 / $300 k. This may be fine - especially if Gibbs and gang get bounced after next week-end.

YOU'RE WRONG #1
Belowpar

Here is the deal...

Coach O making about 500k right now with the Saints...UT is paying Lane Kiffin what, 2 million or something, they are paying Monte Kiffin, 1 million...Now please do the Math here...With 2 guys making that much money, where are they going ot come up with big money for a 3rd guy?

The truth to the deal is....Lane Kiffin and Orgeron have the same Agent. The math just doesn't work with Orgeron and Tennessee.

Linkovich

Did we offer close to this? And did O just use us as a bitch?...

Belowpar

yes the offer was over that and we will see if he is using us...I think it might be a possibility, but I doubt it....

Linkovich

Dat's alot of money for a Dl but i'll take him if we are willing to spend it. What are we going to have to pay Chavis to make him feel comfortable with that situation?...

Belowpar

Orgeron would be Asst. Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator and D-Line...This would probably pay more than Chavis

YOU'RE WRONG #2

From an interview with Payton

Do you think you’ll have Ed Orgeron here next season?

“I think so. I’ve had a chance to sit and visit with him. This is the time of the year when it’s not uncommon – and I’ve said before that the good news is that there are people that are interested in our coaches. I’m as excited as anyone for Doug Marrone. When I look back on his interview process and go all the way back to January or February of ’06, not too long after Katrina we were putting a staff together and bringing in coaches and wives and families, that was a challenging time. With a guy like Doug Marrone, who has been here with us since day one, there are a lot of things that we can reflect back on and be proud of. He was a big part of that season and our success on offense. That leads me to a guy like Ed Orgeron or any of the other assistants we have on our staff; we want the best for them and their families and we think we provide not only a great place to work, but a place that gives you a chance to win. When the season’s over with and we have a chance to sit down and go through not only our players, but our coaches, I think in the end he’ll be with us.”

So you don’t think he’s going to Tennessee?

“If I thought he was, I wouldn’t have said I think he’s going to be with us.”

I have never been a big Yaw Yaw supporter and no one will ever convince me he and Petey weren't in cahoots with JM, BUT, he would bring us the fire and passion that this team sorely lacked this season. If you have emotional team leaders among the players (Dorsey, Steltz, Flynn) then your coaches can be more passive, if not, then the fire and energy has to come from the coaching staff. College sports is so much about emotion, and that is one reason I like it so much better than pro sports, where it is more of a job situation. I suspect O likes that about the college game over the pros as well. I went from WTF when his name surfaced to being very disappointed if we don't bring him on-board.

Coach O is a must with Chavis.

With Walker it'll be great but not a necessity.

Even though i'm sure miles would like to retain him, LSU would not let this happen.

Take a look at the salaries of our position coaches, including Moffit, and our coordinators who do not make over $500k. We would totatlly disrupt the salary structure of our staff, and breed discontent, if we paid O wayyyyyyyyy more than others - including the OC, and DC -- not a good organizational move in fottball or any orgainzation.

A must with Chavis? To make LSU fans feel better?

Walker could use a guy like coach O more than Chavis. Chavis has more experience and more success coaching a good front seven than Walker does.

We have the #1 recruting class in the US this year and over the last 4 years, our combined classes are number 3. I like O, but recruiting is fine --- a well coached and smart use of defensive talent is not fine.
did you stop to think that maybe the defensive coaches leaving played a part in LSU getting those classes?

i seriously doubt O will break any rules that he's not given permission to break

sure, he may have broken rules at ole miss, but he was the HNIC there. at LSU, miles calls the shots

coach O will recruit as he's told to
