Why Does Everyone Think Coach O is a Must?

The DC is the really important hire and he needs to have a staff that he trusts. I would like to have O, but we need a proven DC who can prepare a defense week end / week out and build a defensive program for years. Chavis certainly can do it and perhaps Walker, Tenuta, or Edwards could do it. O recurutied well at Ole Miss, coached like shite, and the Saints DL has performed like the usual crap Saints DL. O is NOT the main hire.

It's the combination of his coaching abilities and his recruiting prowess, in addition to his Louisiana HS football connections.

Because LSU and Tennessee fans really want to be on Probation?

We have the #1 recruting class in the US this year and over the last 4 years, our combined classes are number 3. I like O, but recruiting is fine --- a well coached and smart use of defensive talent is not fine.

The DC hire is more important, I agree.
Having said that, Orgeron is a guy who would improve just about any coaching staff and he's known as a great recruiter. He'd be a huge get as well.

He will help build the wall around LA. even higher! I think the BAMA staff is hoping he doesn't decide to come here. Just look at how well he did in OLE PISS! What do you think he could do with the only 2 time BCS Champs!

Bc he is a better recruiter than anybody on the staff, is a very good motivator, has good connections to LA high school football, and demands respect from the players.

Almost forgot....HE WOULD BRING SOME MUCH NEEDED ATTITUDE TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True, but i wouldn't get complacent with recruiting with all the talent Meyer has and the talent Saban is bringing in.

I agree with all the posts about O and would want him here. I think some people are putting his hire above the DC hire and I can tell you the DC is the most important decision we need to make. We need a defense that can make good decisions and knows where to be on the field -- and some attitude.

Yeah... saw a lot of intense winning attitude out of Ole Miss.
Bottom line --> winning brings the attitude, not acting ignorant.

Thanks for the lecture.
LSU knows a lot about winning. And, we know what it's like to have a team who plays hard for their coaches...and what it's like to have a team that doesn't seem to.
Kids react to Orgeron whether you want to believe it or not.

Yes, Many at Ole Miss reacted by quitting or transferring. The rest reacted by losing 75% of the games. After he was replaced by Nutt, that same group goes to a bowl right away. Oregeron is an above average recruiter, but his "intensity" never really transferred to W's... whether you want to believe it or not.

Thats great and all but we are not hiring him as a head coach. He's a proven dline coach/recruiter.

I don't think there's been much of a fall off in recruiting or DLine play at USC since he left. He did recruit well at Ole Miss, though.

I am with you. LSU recruits itself and if you have a coach with a track record of improving players once they arrive on campus, then the rest falls into place. I would much rather have an above average coach but average recruiter than an average coach, but above average recruiter.
What I have noticed on the Lair is that a pack mentality forms (see Tenuta and Coach O) and absent an independent thought, these names begin to take a life of their own.

The Pack mentality is very apparent. I don't necessarily agree that LSU "sells itself." That line of thinking got Tennessee is trouble about 7-8 years ago. They do, however, usually have enough coaches on staff to recruit well, combined with the advantageous geographic location. What is evident is that LSU doesn't need to make a desperate hire for recruting purposes... that's what O would be.

Ole Miss' greatest leap forward came with their QB this year. You should have been able to identify that.
And, we aren't considering Orgeron for HC or even DC...it's for recruiting and position coaching. It's the best of both worlds. You seem to be trying real hard to convince yourself otherwise.

Tennessee and LSU are different animals.
Tennessee doesn't have a built in recruiting base...LSU does.

desperate?
Orgeron as a DL coach would probably be the single most qualified DL coach in the nation.
