Why do we want a big name HC

And all the baggage (buyout) associated with it? Just curious. Why not go get the best coordinators and staff money can buy, pay a "manager" of sorts to keep those guys in line and field the questions from the media, and throw the rest at NIL? Almost like a pre-Bailey Ed O hire.

Great coordinators don't stick around and then once they're gone it goes to shite real quick with one bad hire which will eventually happen

Should get an up and comer, like Kelvin Sheppard. That way you don’t have to shoot yourself in the foot if it doesn’t work out. Hes the biggest gamble but the highest reward.

I disagree.You need a head coach that can handle one side of the ball if coordinator hires don't pan out. We learned this during the Orgeron regime. Good or bad coordinators don't stay in place long these days. Relying on one instead of two to workout every year is more sustainable.

This is not the point you think you are making.
Napier would have worked out better for us, considering he and Kelly were fired in the same season. He would have just been 30 million cheaper to get rid of

So you're in favor of the OP's suggested approach...because if we have to eventually fire him it won't cost as much? Interesting.
I was thinking we should focus on finding a coach to build a program that competes for championships but maybe I'm not thinking about it correctly.

No, I'm in favor of OPs approach because I find it ridiculous to give a college football coach 11-12 million dollars a year on a 7+ year deal.
Which is what it will take to get a big name.
They have no motivation to win, given they will walk away with wheelbarrows full of money.
I want someone that we can give a contract to that is motivating to win

I love Kelvin, but why would anyone think he is ready to be a college head coach? He’s still learning how to be an NFL DC. The next recruiting visit he goes on will be his first and he has no idea how to run an organization.

This is my thoughts also - only offer huge long term contracts to your existing coach who you want to keep - and then only with performance guarantees.
Hope we find someone with allegiance to LSU. I don't want another yankee import
