like we are going to do with Riley.
are we? We have no idea whether he will come here or not. It would be something if we miss on Riley, let Napier go to UF where he thrives, builds a powerhouse and we end up with sloppy seconds, someone like Stoops, OBrien, or someone else underwhelming who gets beat regularly by Napier. It’s not out of the realm of possibility, this place would implode.

Napier will be closest thing to Saban there is. Not because of game day coaching, but because of all the detailed oriented stuff behind the scenes

He's right though. If UF gets Napier, we're going to regret letting him go. Riley isn't going to change that either.

UF firing Mullen changes everything for us.

What’s so shocking about that?
Didn’t say it was.

I didn’t know how much more he’s paid relative to the other conference coaches.

Since 2000, there have been 10 NC coaches. 4 have had previous P5 head coaching experience, 6 did not.

How many came directly from a league like the Fun Belt? (1- Tressel was from FCS). How many of those 6 didn’t come from the G5, but we’re P5 coordinators? (4- Stoops, Coker, Fisher and Sweeney. Another in Smart was 1 play away and will likely get his this year. Riley has made the playoff multiple times. Day was promoted. Fickel was a promoted DC and is on the doorstep).

How many other “sure-fire” coaches from better G5 leagues have failed for various reasons? Out of the ones who have survived, how many have poor to mediocre results so far?

Napier may be fine, and he could be the next guy, but others who have looked as good or better and come with even more impressive G5 resumes have failed. These stats really don’t really favor him being a huge success. The most proven routes are existing P5 coaches and star P5 coordinators. Looking at your stats in contest show that clearly.

It’s truly misleading though. How many G5 coaches jump at the money. They go to programs that need a miracle to sustain a high level of success.

There is literally only 15 programs that have a legit shot at a National Championship. I can’t think of 1 G5 HC who has moved onto a program that can win at an elite level.

Napier took over a program in shambles, who traditionally sucks, and turned Louisiana into a Top 25 program. If you don’t think that accounts for more than a mediocre record at a lower P5 program then I don’t know what to tell you.

Florida will get a better HC than what they had. LSU will definitely get a better HC than Orgeron. Just might not be the splashiest hire.

Why do I have this feeling that we are going to seriously regret passing on Napier?

Short answer- because for the longest time, the only jobs open were LSU and USC, and nobody takes USC seriously right now.

We went through a couple months where LSU was the ONLY job available. Our fans have considered (and rejected) the coaches of Penn State, Michigan State, Notre Dame; the coaches of Cincinnati, Iowa State, and Baylor have seemed like amateurs to us. A guy over at ULL was even moreso.
People have mocked the idea of Oklahoma's coach, because he hasn't won national titles.

Now, suddenly, there's competition in the pool. Someone else will pick a guy, and we worry that he might be better than the guy we get. And we could have had him first.
