Why did Florida hire Zook in 2002?

Did they go cheap? What was Jeremy Foley thinking? I can't imagine Florida making a similar hire now.

SOS left in early Jan, they talked to a couple people that turned them down iirc and Zook had some tie either to UF or the AD like you mentioned, he was down the list of candidates.

Do you remember who they were looking at? Even though it was late in the process, there had to have been some up-and-coming head coaches who would've jumped at an offer.

Because Spurrier left them high, dry and with an empty cupboard. At the time the Zookster was the best they could do.

Only names I remember are Shanahan and Maybe Stoops can think of any big hires that year

Zook was a UF assistant under SOS from 91-95 before going to the NFL as an assistant.

A) Not Bob Broadhead.

B) Not Bob Broadhead.

C) Duke Alumn Bob Breadhead that refused to hire Steve Spurrier at LSU and who (SOS) was then later hired by Duke.

I don't think Brodhead had anything to do with the hiring of Archer.
