Why Coach Miles is gone

If he knew he was staying at LSU, he would have said so by now.
How freaking difficult is that to understand?
If you asked your wife or girlfriend if they were still going to be your wife or girlfriend in two weeks and they don't say, "Of course, baby," go ahead and assume you are about to be single.
There is no way he would let everything dangle in the wind with the SEC Championship and bowl game coming up unless he was just buying time until the papers are signed with UM or until the right time comes to make the announcement.
The only positive outcome for LSU would have been had Les issued a press release the day Carr resigned and said he would not accept an offer.
He didn't, so your wife or girlfriend is at the very least having drinks at a cheesy hotel lounge with an old boyfriend and at worst has her underwear on his floor. Neither is going to turn out well for us.
It's called reality.

No offense but his way to "get more money" was right there in front of him. He pissed that away last week. I don't buy the contract negotiation stuff because it does not make sense under the circumstances.

Apples and oranges. In the case of college coaches, they use these types of situations as bargaining positions with their current schools. Even if he is going to stay, he would never say point blank that he will never leave. What kind of leverage would he have with LSU to get more money?
Now, keep in mind that I think he's leaving. But even if he isn't, there was no way he was going to say that right when Carr resigned.

That is the fallback position for fans afraid their coach is gone because he won't speak up and it never ends up being right.

I just think that arguement is stupid. He had a chance to up his salary DRAMATICALLY by winning the NC our team was headed for. The Michigan talk HAS had an effect on the team and it makes no sense for him to allow it to go on when it screwed him out of not only a HUGE RAISE but also a National Championship. If Miles stays it's because everything fell apart and the Michigan offer is given to someone else.
BTW, He doesn't "play the game" but he sure as hell COACHES it!

If Miles cared about the $$ so much or bargaining chips he would have coached better against Ar Kansas to be one step closer to the NC game...so he can become no less than the third top paid coach.

If Miles was staying by his own choice, he would have said so by now. Period.
If Michigan didn't want Miles, they would have said so by now. They would be looking at others. They are not. They knew that Carr was resigning months ago, so they were prepared.
They are waiting for the SECCG to be over, guys. The writing is on the wall.
The fact that Miles is waiting and Michigan is waiting only means one thing: He's gone and they both know it. They thought that they might have had to wait until January 8, but Friday changed all of that. It will be sooner rather than later.
As for who replaces him, I have no idea.

Nothing that I know about Les Miles leads me to believe he is the kind to screw around like this trying to squeeze out a few extra bucks from LSU.

The other option yet no better from the perspective that wants Les to stay.
His silence is due to hedging his bets. UM pulls the plug, he keeps his job with us.
But how do you keep that quiet?
If Les lays low and it inevitably comes out that UM made no offer, we all assume he wanted to leave and what does that do for his stature at LSU?
