1. He would be 58 next year, so old.

2. He resigned from Washington a few years ago citing, "lost an essential passion for the job".

3. He has ZERO ties to the SEC.

4. His best season at Washington was 12-2 in 2016 then he regressed each season before leaving in 2019. His record at Washington was 55-26 taking over what Sark built.

I wouldn't hate the hire but why not just hire someone younger like Napier if Rile and Aranda tell you no?

1. That’s not that old for a cfb coach.
2. He said that he needed to “recharge.” Maybe he has.
3 What ties did Urban Meyer have when UF hired him? What ties did Saban have when LSU hired him?
4. Sark didn’t build a damn thing in Seattle. Petersen elevated the program to a place it hadn’t been in over 25 years.

It would be a terrible hire

You have to have that fire in your gut to coach in the SEC. It’s all day everyday. It ain’t for someone who is retired and thinking he might want to get back in it.

I haven’t really seen many people advocating for him. The only reason he’s even mentioned at all is because he worked with Woodward at Washington. He’s one of the least mentioned to be honest.

completely overrated thing to consider.

He made Boise incredible and Washington pretty damn salty.

He's an elite coach and we should be so lucky.

Both Saban and Urban Meyer had zero ties to the SEC. Peterson is a proven coach at multiple programs. Napier’s body of work to this point is simply not comparable.

This whole post was really bad but… what???

Sark was there 5 years and was 34-29, compare that to Petersens first 5 years of 47-21, with a playoff appearance and 2 NY6 bowls. They hadn’t been to a NY6 bowl since 2000. Sarks best year was a holiday bowl win.

The house that Sark built lol. OP is quite the dolt. Even his old age is listed as what it'll be 11 months frok now. What a weird poster. The 7 upvoters need to present themselves.

Why? Because I listed what his age would be in the first season with LSU? Seems like a good bit of people agree with me that it wouldn’t be a great hire.

He had two bowl victories at Washington:

Heart of Dallas and Las Vegas bowls. Riveting

You downplayed him taking Washington to the fricking playoffs like it was nothing while sucking off Sark who actually did nothing at Washington. You didn't mention his work at Boise.

You really stretched on the age thing, which isn't even old to begin with. He'll be 58 mid way through next season, guys!!

Well 58 means he’d likely only be at LSU for 6-8 years max considering his history.

So what’s your point, hire a teen ager. This age thing is getting ridiculous, Saban will be 71 next year. At 58 Saban had just won the first of 6 titles at Alabama.

Dude. That program had won two bowl games this century. Hadn’t won 10 games in a season since 2000. He did that 3 times! In a row!

Because he's an elite football mind, a high level recruiter, a proven winner and program builder, has a reputation of beating "giants" of superior talent, and is young enough still to give a dozen or more years to the right team.

Other than that, he pretty much sucks

For the record, I don't feel like he's a serious contender. But I sure wouldn't be even remotely upset if LSU got him. He would be a remarkably better hire than Fisher.

Simply because I think he's be one of the best options as HC, if he were really wanting to come back to coaching. You would have much better odds at making a worse hire than you would of making a better hire.
