1. Jim Leonard - no brainer - 6 years as DC at Wisconsin after a good NFL career

2. Clay Helton - Georgia Southern, former head coach at Southern Cal, and very respected. Played at Auburn and Houston, so he understands I-10 and I-20.

3. Tom Herman - no explanation needed - he would certainly be interested over staying at FAU

4. Blake Anderson at Utah State. Has been at ULL, USM and Arky State. Played at Sam Houston when Willie Fritz was an assistant there. Makes 1.5M, Tulane paid Willie 2.5M.

David Shaw - former head coach at Stanford. Worth a phone call.

Kane Wommack at South Alabama. No brainer.

Pretty far down on the list: Mike Bloomgren - laugh if you want, yes I know his record at Rice is 22-45, but he's turned high academic Rice into a bowl team, 7 years at Stanford, 5 of those as a coordinator. Still young.

Are they still paying Benny Ellender? Vegas Vince? Both would be logical choices if true.

I doubt they will be looking at any of those people.

Most likely Jon Sumrall or Mike Neu, those type of people.

Want to make the Tulane fans and donors move on quickly from the Administration not figuring out a way to keep Fritz:

Use this as an opportunity to right a wrong from 25 years ago and set karma back right with Coach Rod.

Pay him $2.5m a year and a good budget for assistants.

I think they will look at:

Sumrall
Atkins
Fuentes
Rich Rod (maybe)
Baker
Herman
Kingsberry

I could see Neu being interested but I don’t see Tulane reciprocating.

Sumrall turned Duke down for interview so I think he may be waiting on an SEC job.

Fuentes did excellent job at Memphis and I think will be candidate.

Wouldn’t Memphis to Tulane be a fairly lateral move?

Fuentes left Memphis (2012-2015) and took Va Tech job (2016-2021). He did alright there but got fired in 2021. He won ACC coach of year in 2016. He’s been serving as an analyst this year at Indiana. Looking to get back into coaching. Not my top choice, but hes had success in this league and knows it. Offensive guy.

That’s right. He was horrendous at VaTech.
