Who is Luke Fickell?

In no way am I suggesting anything. Simply did some reading on Fickell’s background. He’s got great composure in interviews and has proven he can run a program, but I was curious on his background/intangibles.
Brief overview
- Growing up, Luke wanted to be an Olympic wrestling champion…. Luke was a three-time undefeated state wrestling champion for DeSales.
- Luke and Amy were college sweethearts at Ohio State. (character in our HC would be fantastic considering Orgeron’s antics)
- Luke started a school-record 50 consecutive football games for Ohio State.
- Luke played on two Big Ten champion squads.
- Fickell coached under Jim Tressel in the 2002 BCS championship vs Miami
- In 2010 he was named the American Football Coaches Association’s assistant coach of the year.
HC Record
53-21
2018
2019
2020
He did this at Cincinatti although the Bearcats have had some well known coaches that preceded Fickell in Tuberville, Butch Jones and Brian Kelly. Yes, they have a weak SOS.
Here’s a great clip. The man is a winner and obviously driven to continue.

Luke Fickell to come back to LSU and revive the wrestling program

Would be an incredible get. Great things happen when folks from Ohio come down to Baton Rouge.

Bleeds Ohio state colors, I’m sure he hates LSU.
Ain’t gonna happen.

Hilarious.
He was an OL (I’m fairly certain) for Ohio State. Some of the best OL recruits wrestled to improve their game in the off-season.

Kelly might have been better there than him with a much better overall set of hardware.

On a serious note I’m a grappler and think it provides you the mental framework and mindset to be successful at anything in life. I’d love to have an ex-wrestler as our HC

And because a man is only as strong as the woman next to him… here’s Mrs. Fickell. She seems like a badass.

Live up here north of Cincinnati. Daughter is in the Bearcat band. Been to and watched many a Bearcat game over the last few years. Fickell is the real deal, a helluva coach and motivator. What he’s done with limited talent is phenomenal. Hoping like hell he’s Woodward’s man and has asked him to keep it quiet until he’s done taking the Bearcats as far as he can this season, which is in his character to do. If he is, all these impatient skyscreamers whining about Riley are going to realize how ridiculous they were.
