For the most part, the secondary was terrible due to freshman & sophomores and the abysmal play of our safeties. They were out of position for entire games. Also, whatever the hell Pelini was scheming.
Well, freshmen and sophomores make up over half your team on any given year so you gotta coach them o be good as well. And again, you have 3 5-stars starting in your secondary, your 2 safeties were seniors. I agree Pelini was weak, but the secondary was 90% of the problem on D. I’m not saying fire Raymond, but I am questioning promoting him to DC after his position group was absolutely terrible!

Only concern with him is he has never been a DC in his own right except as a co-dc for a very short time. Maybe he would be great but as a DC he could be a pretty big risk. Kind of like thinking every great coordinator can be a great head coach. We know that doesn't always corollate.

Corey Raymond is not an option unless you make him co-dc with a young guy like Freeman

Been reading TD”a for years, posting some. All I’m talking about are three possibilities.
I don care about them, but what’s with dislikes?

Oh, we get on here and obsess over this bullshite and build a wall against a guy in a matter of hours because we over analyze it all. Please ignore it! That’ll be a key to survival around here!

A thinker and a Top Recruiter. Able to relate to the players. With the appropriate intellect and adaptability to the players on the team, the youngest option has a lot more appeal.
I'm weary about NFL coaches because of recruiting. Do they have the passion to tirelessly recruit. Do they have the personality to appeal to recruits or do they give off the persona that football more of a business to them[?].
I like that Freeman is currently in the role. Need to have the ability to hit the ground running.

Anyone Pete Caroll approves for him.

Any that are arse-kissers, have no spine, no chest, and generally just suck overall.

Freeman is elite at both
Thats why u do whatever it takes to get him
I think they are going to make him tell them no before they move on

Derek Mason. I like the guy, but his record is pretty bad
We would hire him as a DC. Who gives a shite what his record as a HC is?

You mean John Robinson

Do you realize that Raymond coaches CB? The safeties were the major problem along with the LB. If you can’t see that, you don’t know football.

Interesting how those were the 3 you mention, it’s almost like they all have something in common. What about Ryan Nielson or Brad White? Why didn’t you mention those guys?
The top 3 guys (allegedly, anyway) all coincidentally happen to be black. I’m sure the guys you mentioned are good too, and maybe one will get hired, but Imagine if Coach O went to Woodward and said “I like these 3 guys,” and Woodward answered like this.

Is he supposedly like that?
If nothing else, y’all have sold me on Freeman

I get that and get how I may have come off. FWIW, I think Freeman is the best choice. And my initial objection to the post have less todo with the OP and more to do with the writer of the article. I don’t think Raymond is a serious candidate. I think you gotta give him an interview bc of his tenure with the team, but they ain’t gonna hand him the reigns. From the guys I’ve spoke to outside of here the 2 names I consistently hear are Nielson(1st and foremost) and White. Obviously with all the smoke there might be a level of interest in Mason, but his scheme and history makes him not my “cup of tea”.

Raymond should not be a candidate. He has never called a defense before. Freeman is far and away the best candidate of the three.
Raymond could be a good DC with the right mentoring, but the timing is not good now, coming off the Pelini disaster.
