Where was the news that Ensminger said he didn’t want the job?

I’ve dug back a few pages and can’t find anything.

So he turned it down? Then O couldn’t find anybody interested, and he decided it was his duty to step up?

He turned it down, and we came to him again after "all of our options were depleted." It's horse shite, yes. But I have to commend Ensminger .

We should all get behind Ensminger, regardless of how we feel about O.

We owe him that.

He absolutely did not want the job. He's said that publicly before, and many media people reported it recently. It wasn't a secret. I know people very close to Steve; I never asked them about the OC search but once the news broke yesterday others brought it up in group conversation. They just winced and said he doesn't want it but O kept pressing and he is accepting out of loyalty/sense of duty.

Gordy Rush, his son in law and majorly attached to the program, stated after he was overlooked last year for the position that it was because he had absolutely no desire to retain it. Pretty tough to put that cat back in the bag now.

Don't believ that. He didn't want it without a big salary. He is using the situation for personal gain like everyone else. He deserves any criticism that he earns.

Hell, after seeing the reasons people wanted Orgeron to begin with, I was behind Ensminger for HC. He's one of us. He loves LSU. His offense set records in 2016. Seemed to be the only qualifications necessary for Orgeron so why not hire the guy who isn't the worst HC in Ole Miss history.

It's ridiculous that this is meaningful to you. The thought that there is some shortage of qualified coordinators and Ensminger had to step up and take one for the team is one of the most laughable narratives I've heard.

ETA: frick Ensminger.

It’s probably the narrative pushed onto Steve

“Help us Steve-Kenobi, you’re our only hope”

In what rational world does anyone think that hiring someone for a job that doesn't want the job is going to work out?

I'm just at a total loss with all of this. I've gone from angry/frustrated to numb.

I think at this point, O has already realized he's a "dead man walking" and figures if he's going out, it's going to do it his way.

I definitely disagree. Guy played at LSU and clearly loves the school and program. He's doing the job reluctantly apparently. Not because there aren't other qualified candidates but because of our trainwreck coach and board. whatever happens, Ensminger is owed respect and appreciation for stepping up as interim last season and now again it looks like.

Let's go through the options:

* Do what's in my best interest even though I don't think I'm the right person for the job.

In that case, he should certainly receive tons of criticism should he fail.

* Turn down the job because I know I'm not capable of delivering what is needed.

In that case, it's a moot point.

It's easy to forget that Ensminger wouldn't get an OC job anywhere close to even a G5 conference. He knows that. The guy is doing what is in his best interest only. And, while I understand that, I'm certainly not going to give him a pass if/when it fails.

If you take a job in which you are severely under qualified, you can't expect to escape criticism.

I'm just tired of the "Ensminger is a saint" line of reasoning. He's just like Orgeron.
