Eta: he led the N. Illinois offense to a MAC championship.

Ultimately, it looks like the HC was under pressure to fire someone. Many said that it should have been the DC, and not Canada. In hindsight it appears they were correct.

Unfortunately, this is just too subjective.

I think that was intentional. That way no matter who we end up with, he can say "We got our man"

Wasn't he the one coaching Michael Turner that year? IIRC, Turner was setting records and tearing things up. I think he got near 400 yards rushing in one game at No. Ill.

Canada's record with downhill running games (Turner, Ball, etc) show you that he would be a dream hire for us. He would be a perfect fit for the current talent we now have, as well as fitting the mold to perfectly blend the caliber athlete we often produce out of the La. H.S. ranks. Also, he is known to have great ball control / time of possession offenses. This would match beautifully with our defense mindset.

Did he coach Russell Wilson at Wisconsin?

ETA... nope Wilson was a rookie in 2012 so he came in after he left per wiki.

I read a couple of articles that suggested he didn't utilize his best skill players well enough, even though they were scoring points.

Doeren has had trouble getting things going at NC State, so he might've made a change just for the sake of change. Goodness knows LSU fans complained about Les being loyal to his guys to a fault.

After i did all my research on Canada, i read one quote by him that had me sold.

Reporter: "What type of offense do you like to run?"

Canada: "The type that puts up points."

If you look at Canada’s offensive scheme he has implemented spread, power spread, pro style all at different universities. Like Aranda and Kiffin (both broyles nominees) he adapts his scheme/gameplan to his players.

That's why he made the quote above. Basically, saying i will make sure the offense fits the players on the roster. Not only does he talk it, but has successfully done it (like Aranda and Kiffin) before at multiple stops.

I read that same thing. A few head scratching play calls in game, etc. Ultimately i think it boils down to what you said about making a change to make a change (or internal pressure). Looking back i think Doeren realizes he made the wrong fire.

They didn't win the MAC that year, but Turner the Burner and NIU beat Bama in Tuscaloosa.

99th in 2013 and 72nd in 2014 nationally

You also posted some wisky rushing stats as if wisky has ever had trouble running the football regardless of OC.

Stop pretending like you've been following this dude by supporting your claims with random notes from his bio.

Lol. You have no clue who has watched pitt, and no he wasn't terrible before. Why don't you send me links to how terrible he was at his previous stops.

I'm getting tired of people reading one paragraph in Wikipedia about him being fired and thinking he sucks or is unsuccesful. The firing made no sense, really, and looking at it in hindsight many say the fired the wrong coach.

Yeah, the OCs that can adapt and change, to both fit the tools in their sheds, along with adding wrinkle to stay a step or two above the DCs battling them, are the ones that last the test of time vs. being a "flash in the pan."

Thanks Tiger Tracker. You always seem to post good info, and I tend to agree with your stances and insight.

So you value more what he did in his first year (after inheriting a mess) , or do you put more value in what he did 2 years later after further implementing his system & getting his own players in to implement that system ? You've actually validated my position. He improved every year .

I think he ends up as Head Coach at Indiana unfortunately.

ETA: Never saw the news about Allen getting a 6 year deal.

Its highly unlikely considering the way the head coach search took place that we are doing any due diligence for the OC.

In 2015 nc state ranked 57th in ypg, LSU under cam was 39th

In the same year nc state ranked 42nd in ppg, lsu was 44th.

You do understand that whatever Alleva did with the head coaching search has absolutely no correlation to what CEO is doing with the OC search. The athletic director does not make staff changes, the head coach does.
