What’s your recollection of Mike McCarthy as Saints OC back in the day?

Probably the best OC the Saints had ever had up to that point

Same. It's too long ago for me to remember any specifics of why I didn't this he was very good, but I'm convinced my reasons were legitimate and would hold up today.

This is probably true, but also not saying much.

Makes total sense for saints fans.

“I was glad to see him go but I have no idea why”

Clever response. He left 18 years ago! I knew exactly what I didn't like about him when he left, but I probably haven't thought about him being the Saints OC since Payton arrived.

He was garbage for the Saints and Green Bay. Favre and Rodgers made him look decent.

Eh, I understand the franchise's history set the bar pretty low, but the Saints finally won a playoff game, and broke team scoring records when McCarthy was the OC.

It's easy to say Favre and Rodgers carried him, but he still won the Super Bowl as a 6-seed, and might have more Super Bowl wins if not for some crazy-arse playoff losses.

I'm not arguing that McCarthy is a great coach. But I think his overall resume is a bit better than he gets credit for.

His offense produced a 1k rusher, and 2 1k receivers in the same season one year. Can't recall which one. Deuce, Joe Horn and Willie Jackson if I'm not mistaken...

His offense was 1st down deuce right 2nd down deuce left 3rd down was either deuce up the middle or a bomb on 3 and 5 that was usually picked because it was Aaron brooks.

No one was sad to see him go

And that’s all it took to get Green Bay to offer him HC gig? Amazing that you’d be more creative yet have never coached a down of ball in your life.

He was fine. Didn’t help that he had Aaron Brooks. Also a revolving door at OL.

this dude spent 10 years on the Saints sidelines. Can't believe he's still in the League coaching at 73 yrs old

Is that Carl smith?

If so, frick him. Y'all wanna know what it is to have a BAD OC, look no further.

Even with Bobby Herbert, we still should have won more if not for his run run dink pass philosophy.
