I think he's not proven, a ton of coaches have done well for a short time at places like Houston and not done well when facing tougher competition literally all of the time.

Ed Oliver (#4 overall in the nation) is the first 5 star player to ever sign with a non-power five program.

What's that tell ya?

Tells me that that they are recruiting their butts off

I'm impressed with what's he's doing now vs power 5 opponents, with 2-3 star guys (few 4s).

I would hope our admin isn't so short sighted to dismiss him based on that without looking at everything else he brings to the table. But then again, maybe they are.

Someone is going to be paying him top 5 type money very soon and winning big. It might as well be us.

I'd roll the dice on this guy rather than all the re-treads being bandied about.

I figure we may have some indication where we're leaning in the next three weeks

Among fans and media, Herman is becoming a favorite. Mat Mascona seems to be a fan. True pocket passers are tending to become harder to come by. Spread systems have taken over high school programs. Give be a guy whose ready to use what we have here, and the type of QBs that have become the "norm" in HS football.

What's to Like About Herman

The only thing is just the "small snippet" of a resume he has as a HC. Now what he has done with the small snippet is extremely impressive. But that is the only knock on him if you want to look at his resume and if he is the right coach for LSU.

I think he is the clear #1 target and LSU should go ALL IN on him, do whatever it takes to get him. With LSU's current talent on it's roster with our recruiting prowess I think he could do some great things at LSU.

I agree. If it were not for what he's done against Jimbo and Bob Stoops, his stock would be as high. I acknowledge the risk. But as Skip Bertman pointed out that Nick Saban himself was somewhat of a risk when he hired him. 1 season at Toledo and 5 seasons at Michigan State. The record at Michigan state was 35-24 (62% record).

I just read in another thread, he's winning with 2* talent. You guys need to make up your mind.

Took 4* or 5* Ed Oliver from us, UT, and aTm last season...

You better hope they lose a game. If they make playoffs he isn't leaving. We aren't waiting till mid January.

It isn't difficult. As of now, he has little in terms of talent...but he's winning. He's also bringing in talent for the future.

Impressed how he kept Ed Oliver in Houston. Kid is an animal and 3 years ago no way he stays in town.

Staples at SI:

quote:

Herman would be outstanding at LSU, too.

Where LSU's old staff could take a four-star quarterback recruit and run him into the ground, Herman can take a three-star athlete who at one time was moved to receiver and develop him into one of the nation's best quarterbacks.

So imagine that kind of coach with the kind of players LSU can recruit.
