If Jimbo was going to elevate somebody already on staff this obvious choice would be James Coley. He's been an OC for Jimbo and called plays at Miami and UGA. This would still give Jimbo some amount of control as he could at least be in on the scripted plays and it wouldn't be all that awkward if he felt like overriding a call.

True, but this is absolutely NOT what A&M is demanding.

Here's the problem- after taking some time off, Jimbo is going to look at the season, and see that he lost 5 of those 7 games by 1 score, including Bama. And that he finished with a solid win over LSU once he got his RB back, and his QB settled in.

And he's going to decide (maybe rightfully so, who knows?) that his team is "close" yet again, and be reluctant to change things around. Will blame things on bad luck and freshman learning curves.
And somebody will be named OC, and A&M comes out with the 2003 offense again.

And that's going to drive the boosters insane. A&M may well be better, but if they don't win the West at bare minimum, they will turn full-bore on him. He might get fired for 9-3.

Because that's what he is, a 9-3 ceiling. He can try to match Bama's talent (will need several years to do so), but even Saban has decided you need to score 35-40 pts a game to win. Even UGA with all their power, they toss the ball around a lot, and that's with Stetson Bennett. They don't have a 1k yd rusher. Their TE has more receiving yds than their top RB has rushing yds.

The world has changed, and Jimbo's been left behind.

Jimbo Fisher was able to beat LSU when his team is bad. Is he a clone of Ed Orgeron? Yet last game against Texas A&M LSU didn't make bowl game but still was able to beat Texas A&M. This sounds similar to what Fisher did to LSU and his team wasn't Bowl eligible. I do think Texas A&M will bounce back next year and make bowl game.

That would be a big step for that program

No, he's more a Les Miles clone.

Like Miles, he's been used to winning in a certain manner, and he can still win individual games that way. It's the old "I've never needed a bigger gun" joke; he's not going to change because he thinks he has the winning formula.

It's been noted before- Saban flipped his own program a few years back, I think Freeze, Kiffin and Malzahn convinced him. Some teams are going to score 30 on you, and you need to outscore them.

So in his FIFTH year, you are paying Jimbo all that money to bounce back and maybe make a bowl game????

Looks like Jimbo might be zeroing in on his OC

quote:

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher is now playing the longer game in a search for an offensive coordinator, with early signing day on Wednesday out of the way. If Fisher is unable to land a more established name in the business, he potentially could turn to Southern Cal interim inside receivers coach Luke Huard, according to several people around the state familiar with the search.

quote:

Huard, 43, was an offensive analyst under Fisher at A&M from 2019-21 before moving on to USC.

quote:

Huard joined the USC staff in February of 2022 as an offensive analyst. In March, he took over as interim inside wide receivers coach while Dave Nichol was away from the program for a personal matter.

quote:

Huard, 42, spent the previous 3 seasons (2019-21) as an offensive analyst at Texas A&M.

Anyone that believes Jimbo is going to put down his 5 notebooks, remove his readers and stop calling plays is living in dreamland.

Jimbo was crucified on his playcalling…his response has been “nothing will change, a smash is a smash no matter who is calling it…it’s execution”. The LSU game proved Jimbo right, in his mind. As an LSU fan, we know all to well about atrocious play calls and the excuse of “execution” from miles. Who would pull a rabbit out his arse to beat a team they shouldn’t…giving him credit to change nothing.

He's going to hand it over alright. Hand it over in it's entirety with zero change to scheme. Second verse same as the first.

I just love the idea that Jimbo and Les clashed in 2006. It’s probably true, but Jimbo looks an awful lot like Les in 2022.

And possibly be out of a job after next year if Jimbo is fired.
