Saw mentioned here and elsewhere of him joining as an analyst. I’m a big fan of his run game schemes and think he’d be a great benefit. Very good recruiter too.

What’s the word?

Given how tight him and Solomon Thomas are, that makes a lotta sense

I saw this tweet this morning before this report and my first thought was this kid will prolly hit the portal the second another school hires Atkins, but sounds line LSU already thought that far ahead

Can analysts actively recruit? If so hell yes

Nope. <--I was incorrect, see ETA below.

ETA: There was a rule change in June 2024 that allows analysts to be designated as a recruiter. So the answer is they can but only if they are one of the 11 designated recruiters on the staff.

I think there's a way an analyst can recruit, but only in place of an on field coach. I remember a situation where one school's offensive asst coach didn't beat the streets in January and February for whatever reason and an analyst was able to recruit in his place.

Technically there isn’t anything stopping an “analyst” from recruiting, and you’re going to possibly see an entire recruiting staff of analysts from UNC with bill belicheck that doesn’t hold much game day responsibilities

Before you had to define 11 “on field” coaches. They were the ones that could recruit and the only ones that could provide instruction to the players.

But now the NCAA says anyone can provide on field instruction. And you can hire as many on field coaches as you wish. But you still can only have 11 coaches who can recruit

So you can let Atkins recruit if you make him one of your 11 off campus recruiters and give him an assistant role. Seems unlikely with the current staff of recruiters we have, but if we have some assistant shuffling then that could change quickly

So is Atkins really coming on as an analyst?

I've always been really high on him and.wanted Kelly to hire him when he came to lsu.

Why? I know we have some recruiters, but they aren't all known for their recruiting. Just get the best 11 on it.

I forgot about Nagle leaving and there already being an open spot for the 11. So if we get a special team coach and a TE coach as on field only then yeah let him go after it on the trail

With the rule change in 2024, the only thing analysts can't do is recruit off-campus.

Right which is why I have analysts in quotes

What we think of as analysts will now be on field coaches. Functionally the same concept, just now you can use them to recruit if they are part of your 11 recruiting coaches
