I’d guess the big deal is he’s potentially leaving for a permanent in-conference rival…

There is no win in this for Keith Carter, and that's the delay.

None.

Think there big issue is he is going to a team that plays them every year and don’t want him coaching them while trying to recruit players and staff for us. If going out of conference don’t think they would care near as much. Which I get

If you’re the AD at ole miss you have to realize this might be you’re only chance at making a run in the playoffs and you’re going to be a dick and not let the guy who got them this far finish the season out.

Understand that but Ole Miss isn't looking to the future.
They won't have a coach after the playoffs if they haven't had a verbal agreement with a coach in waiting during all this.

What if he takes ole Miss on a deep playoff run and then decides he doesn’t want to leave ole Miss. now we’ve lost a month. There are no coaches to hire(good ones) and signing day is right around the corner.

So you lose a coach, a recruiting class, and are made a national laughing stock all at the same time.

And since it’s kiffin, him leaving you in the lurch is not exactly a crazy conclusion to come to.

Let him finish then bring the whole damn offense and staff to BR for next semester

Um…yeah, but there’s this little issue with Ole Miss needing a coach, too. When do you suggest they go get him and when does he start? Lane needs to leave Ole Miss now. Ole Miss needs to conduct their own search.

Austin Thomas will be recruiting on Lanes behalf while he finishes the season

There isn’t much downside to LSU not having Kiffin ON SITE next week while having it publically announced he’s the coach

One could argue letting him get SECCG and CFP coaching experience would actually be a positive for us as well.

The big deal is that there is more to coaching a football team than coaching the games itself.

He gameplan for possibly multiple playoff games for one direct rival and then recruit high school and transfer portal for another.

And works both ways. Ole Miss going to be left high and dry if he coaches through the playoffs and then leaves. No good coaches for them either.

On LSU's end im sure they are fine with that as long as the contract is signed so that LSU can tell recruits and he cant back out and leave LSU with no coach and all the candidates have gone elsewhere.

On the Ole Miss side they can let him finish the season sure while they look for another coach. The problem on their end with that is they would then have a coach from a rival school coaching their team and in the building actively able to recruit them to LSU.

Why do you people keep saying this dumb shite?

12 team playoffs. NIL, rev share and unlimited transfers.

It isn't like this is some historically bad program like UMASS.

I don’t think it’s ideal

frick ole Miss

But if the hang up for lane is wanting to coach HIS team and it’s that or he’s not coming to BR

LET HIM STAY WHILE UNDER CONTRACT

yall really have no idea who actually recruits the last few years

It damn sure wasn’t “make an appointment” Brian Kelly

LSU would be fine and still in great shape for next year if they announce Kiffin is under contract and will assume HC duties after his season ends with OM

When do you think Sumrall would start? Seriously, you people are dumb. Sumrall would want to start immediately….and get paid. He has his own recruiting to do. His own staff to put together.

Surely a contract can have an effective future date?

It was when Lane was taking the FAU job, not Ole Miss

And there’s been past situations where a coordinator for a team playing for a national title had already been announced as HC at their new school, but still stayed on with their prior school through the end of the playoffs or BCS title game.

Kirby Smart got hired by Georgia at the end of the regular season but he stayed on with Bama as DC for another month until the CFP championship game. Bo Pelini had been hired already by Nebraska and still stayed on at LSU through the BCS title game.

He doesn’t have to be there another day to take whatever kids he wants from OM

OM kids wanted to play for Lane when they signed

And all of them would have signed with Lane at LSU

Like in any normal business. Upper management turns in notice it is immediate. You cant have them take the next in line with them out the door much less the operations group with a new NIL cash bucket.

LSU wins greatly if he commits to us and stays to pillage existing players and recruits.
