Napier got his start and most of his coaching acumen from Dabo. Napier over Dabo ‘is silly’

UL is literally his only venture into Louisiana as a player or coach.

He also went into Louisiana as an assistant at Bama and bagged several big name recruits. Which I think only strengthens his case

Alabama
tOSU
Georgia
Clemson
LSU

Napier is a fine coach, but he needs to coach at another P5 school and win there before LSU should consider him. We have an elite and proven AD. As a top 5 program that is the only one with a head coaching job opening, we should be able to get a proven winner with P5 experience.

Its nothing against Napier.

Simple, he is unproven at running a big time program. Yeah, it’s really that simple.

I wouldn’t be upset if they hired Napier

Come on man, that’s way too reasonable of a post. We all know that if they don’t hire him it’s only because ULL is hated, the SBC is hated, or you’re an idiot. lol

I wouldn’t be adverse to him being a fallback kind of guy, but in my mind he hasn’t been successful enough for long enough to warrant being a top 3-4 pick.

I like Napier and would be happy with him but he’s clearly a risk. He’s a tier 2 candidate for sure

Say what you want about Napier, but his ability to lead a P5 program like LSU is unknown, he’s never done it.

Neither had Riley, neither had Smart, neither had Dabo

Oklahoma, Clemson and Georgia didnt seem to be too good to hire a unproven HC, what makes LSU so special that they are above it? ..and Napier actually has a better resume than them. He actually has HC experience.

His team just struggled to a 1-point win against a 1-5 Ark State team last week.

And should've lost South Alabama.

Doing well in the Sunbelt is not that hard.

We should be able to do much better and get a proven winner from a Power 5 conference rather than go slumming in the sunbelt

I agree it's concerning. Their team doesn't look as strong as it did the last couple years and Lewis actually looks more shaky.

I would put Riley far and above as my number 1 followed by Kiffin and Aranda. Then probably Campbell and Napier.

As for close wins and playing down to competition or close wins Riley barely beat 1 win Tulane (5 pts), 3-5 Nebraska (7), K State (1-3 in Big XII by 6) 3 point win over WVU (1-3 in Big XII) and had a controversial fumble vs 1-6 Kansas turn the game late for OU. Should we be concerned with Riley? Every one of those teams OU is a 3TD better team talent wise and they could easily have 3-4 losses based on performance. Am I worried about Riley as a candidate? Not at all, but the way OU is playing in the Big XII right now would translate into a lot of losses in the SEC.

So to sum it up, even the top candidate is not without red flags.

There is absolutely no reason for favor Aranda over Campbell

Please tell me what Franklin has accomplished at PSU and the great teams he’s beaten? I’ll hang up and listen.

uh, he won the B1G by beating Fleck, #2 ranked Urban Meyer, Ferentz, Dantonio, and then #6 Wisky in the title game. And I DO NOT like Franklin. But he did do that.

Then the next year he beats Chris Petersen, Harbaugh, Fitzgerald, and Narduzzi.

Now do Napier.

Other SEC teams have shown interest in Napier. LSU is an SEC school. Pretty clear why LSU would be interested in him. He is a hell of a coach and will win when he gets this job or any other.

Aranda is a known commodity and could make a seamless transition. He's a genius level strategist and is a detail oriented coach. I really like Campbell though and he has a solid track record. I don't see much of a separation between the two for me personally, but no doubt Campbell has a stronger resume'.

Not fair, he beat Nichols and Ark State, each by less than 3 points.

People don't like him because they're projecting the "he's one of us" Coach O hire onto Napier and think hiring Napier would be rooted in a similarly dumb thought process, even though that's just coaching-search PTSD talking.

Are you really going to try to equate the coaching career of Billy to that of Kirby or compare the recent history of the LSU football program when Billy would be taking over to that of the Clemson football program when Debo to over?

they don't think he has proven enough at a high enough level. That's all. Otherwise, there is plenty to like but when you're hearing "Top 5 job" from everywhere, it tends to make people want a more proven commodity.
