Just wondering if someone in the know has any details, especially if Aranda has assumed any typical "head coach" responsibilities since Miles was fired.

If it comes down to hiring O, I give Aranda a raise and tell him hes the coach in waiting if O does not work out.

I like Ed O a lot, but if it comes down to hiring O, I'd just give it to Aranda.

I wouldn't see Aranda as that bad of a choice. Hire him. Hire a good OC.

I think the entire appeal of O as head coach with Aranda as DC, is that Aranda gets to spend all of his time being the professor. He gets to break down film, gameplan against opponents, etc. instead of doing media interviews, radio shows, and all the other obligations that come with "running a program."

By no means does that mean I don't think Aranda won't be a good head coach some day. But I really like that guy 100% focused on the defensive side of the ball without the distractions.

Agreed Aranda for HC and let Coach O replace Aleva. Everyone talks about how amazing he is at recruiting. Let's see if he can recruit coaches.

We know way less about Aranda as HC than O. People bitching about O becoming coach but want Aranda who has absolutely no experience.

Your statement doesn't help Os case. What we know about O as HC is his time at Ole Miss. Hence the reason people would take a risk on Aranda over O.

Would you rather hire someone that has gotten fired at his previous jobs or someone with a degree but no work experience?

Do we even know if Aranda wants to be a head coach? Some people, especially those with his temperament, make better coordinators.

According to Karl Scott, "Louisiana Tech’s safeties coach who was a graduate assistant under Aranda in 2007 at Delta State.", Yes:

Scott laughed retelling that story. It’s just goofy, quirky Dave Aranda — a defensive mad scientist with a quiet, self-depreciating style who, yes, wants to be a head coach one day. “He’s going to be a rock star,” Scott said.

It's in his contract that he can leave buy-out free to be a head coach anywhere.

The Rant's coaching experts don't want to admit they have no freaking idea what an associate head coach is or what he does.
