Very interesting nugget from post press conference interviews. AD Jeff Long said he got a letter from Bret Bielema in September.

Interesting note: Bielema sent Jeff Long a letter in Sept. Include coaching philosophy/appreciation of job Long has done.
Go ahead and eat your crow here.

But, who would want to come here? We never make good hires now that we have a real AD

Makes sense. It would also explain the 5 losses by Wisc this year.
I thought all along that the Miles thing was a diversion to the advantage of both sides. LSU gets an opportunity to give Miles the raise he deserved last year and Arkansas gets to show that it is willing to open the bank book. And it worked.
Just goes to prove that unless it is a press conference announcing the hire, you can't trust anything you hear the week between Thanksgiving and the conference championships. Too many reasons to lie that week.

...and he was still 7th on the list.

After the hire is made they always say that was the guy all along. What are they supposed to say? Our current coach was a backup plan. Bielema wasn't yall's first choice and Gus wasn't ours but that's what both schools are going to make it sound like.

1. Why did it take so long
2. Why was he 8th on the list an only offered after 7 turned it down

He's a pretty badass backup plan

Yeah he's pretty good. I don't know how well he fits at Arkansas but we'll see.

Meh, what else are they supposed to say?
"Oh well we like Bielema but he wasn't really our top guy"
Not saying this is false but this is said everytime

Clay Travis knows nothing about his own school, why would he have any information, contacts, or sources at Arkansas?

At least we won't be afraid to hit on defense

According to the press conference they met in person early Monday morning in NYC and then Bielema flew back to Madison and let Alvarez know he was leaving.
So by that recounting the deal was done about 36 hours after the Big 10 championship game ended. That's actually a pretty quick turnaround.

arky fans can spin it all they want. BB could have been the guy all along, most of us will never know. but when you throw out big names like peterson, patterson, and gundy, allegedly offer les miles the job, then come home with BB, bielema feels underwhelming.
ultimately, it doesnt really matter anymore. its like how many stars a kid shows up on campus with, they no longer matter. 2 star guys can outplay 5 stars, and what looks like a lackluster hire, could turn out to be the best one in the history of the world. time will tell
