Wondering why Bronco Mendenhall hasn’t been mentioned more in coaching talk.
What am I missing?

The ACC is struggling; Charlottesville is a great place to live; and UVA has a shitload of money. Maybe it’s a great match?

Branco is a great coach, but he isn't a quick fix coach. He'd struggle to find to many high level power 5 jobs willing to let him struggle for 3-4 years before being good.

UVA is a good fit because he could go 4-8 for two years and they are patient enough to know he's building to a season like this in year 4

honestly i think part of it is the mormon thing. i don't think he'd be a culture fit in most places, especially in the south or midwest.

He's a hell of a coach, but I think he'd struggle recruiting versus the big boys

He is more of a slow burner in getting programs built up, and I also think he has a low ceiling. He is fine for having a consistent 8, 9 win team, with the occassional 10 win team, but he isnt going to win you any titles

Well, he’s about to win one now, along with ending a 15 year streak.
Obviously ole boy can coach

UVA's SJW culture is a much bigger cultural mismatch for Mormons than the Baptist culture of the SEC.

when he was hired there he was very happy there and his children would be going there as well.

No it isn't.
Heck a lot of the conservative Christians don't even believe Mormons to be Christian.

REgardless, there aren't many SEC schools that would want Mendenhall and which would be worthwhile for him to move. Tennessee, Auburn - maybe - and they're taken.

Felt like I either read an article or heard on a podcast that he wanted a very specific job, a P5 where football was secondary (UVA basketball) and he could have time to do things how he wanted. Thus, he felt UVA was a good match.

He’s a great coach. Heard him speak many times but he’s a better fit for a school like BYU and UVA. He’s kinda goofy and I’m not sure he’d motivate most P5 teams.
