My thing is that you are an idiot for believing that when you have a contract with a buyout.

If he resigns it will only be to let him go gracefully. He will of been let go as terms of his contract specifies

Well I want to thank Texas for taking the coaching fire\hire clusterfrick award away from LSU.

Do the players feel that Charlie didn't have school's full support at all times?

I'm sure some do. But what do 18-22 year old college football players know about the reality of the situation? The people who matter have wanted Strong to succeed from the get go outside of a very small number of inconsequential boosters (in Houston, who like Herman) who think they're more important than they are.

Red's comments at the beginning were wrong and unfortunate but didn't and shouldn't affect the shitty product on the field.

If anything, you could say that Steve Patterson's cost cutting bullshite showed a lack of support, but he was doing that bullshite to every sport (don't even get me started on what he did to the tennis program)!

Fenves, in particular, has been squarely in his corner because he wanted Strong to win so he wouldn't have to go through a change.

but let's not act like this mess isn't on UT admin as well. This has been handled poorly.

What the admin has or has not done has nothing to do with the effort on the field.

Don't get me wrong, the admin sucks and is incompetent. But what has been put on the field is squarely on the coaches and ultimately Strong.

I blamed Mack for all the bad stuff and gave him credit for the good stuff. Same with Strong.

If any LSU fan (or any CFB fan) had closely watched the Texas-Okie State game this year, you would realize that Strong needed to go (obviously just one game but continuance in a pattern of poor coaching, game management, special teams, etc.).

Strong made Les look like a clock management genius.

Wouldn't your contract require you to be fired to receive your buyout?

it does, but that clause can be negotiated. They can come to him and say "if you leave right now, we'll honor the payout as if you were fired, plus negotiate the clawback on the payout for you accepting a new job somewhere else form 50% to 25%.".

I know Mike Perrin, the interim AD. He is a good guy and a good friend. Mike used to play football for Texas. The reason they picked him as interim AD is because of his impeccable reputation.

Mike does not have the typical background for an AD, sports is not his business. He is a placeholder until they find the right guy.

He is a smart and ethical guy. Anything he is doing he is doing because he thinks its in the best interest of UT.

It sounds like Strong wanted to go out coaching his kids in the last game and they worked a deal where he could do that. There are no doubt contractual issues being worked out, maybe Strong gets to resign and the buyout goes down some.

The over reaction by some Texas fans to letting Strong coach his last game shows UT has its share of moron fans too. In the big picture of UT getting a new coach to take them into the future, Strong coaching the last game has zero impact on that.

Strong is gone and everyone knows it. Letting him exit somewhat on his own terms makes the school look good, not bad. Its a lot different than the LSU situation where a decision was made early in the season.

Agreed and it always gets negotiated. And unlike Mack, Strong (probably) won't through a temper tantrum going out the door.

While I agree with all this, he could still coach the last game and have had the announcement made yesterday/today. That would prevent a week of speculation etc. about something that we all know is done.

I'm sure Perrin is a good guy and he's obviously (from his resume) a great lawyer. he's been thrust into a tough situation that is all on former leaders at the school who really performed poorly at the end of their tenure.

Yes you are. As part of getting you to resign, they agree to honor the payout.

This is true. They could have/should have come to an agreement that he would resign today and announce that he'd be coaching the final game. That way they clear up the uncertainty, rumors, and embarrassment, officially move into coaching search mode, and Cholly gets to ride off into the sunset, coaching the last game.

Based on Charlie's PAST behavior: he is refusing to resign on principle and will subsequently allege that a racist conspiracy kept him from being successful. Just wait; it's coming. He has a big chip on his shoulder and a history of this.

Because that clause is NEGOTIATED as part of getting him to resign. This is done almost every time.
