Serious props to the AD for making the right move
Clay Helton was dealt a tough hand
Yeah, top 5 rated roster based on recruiting rankings. That's a tough hand.

I totally approve this and I think Lynn Swann is doing a fantastic job.

No confidence they can get a big name

He underachieved big time with Darnold.
I wouldn't call a Rose Bowl win and a conference championship a big time underachievement.
Unless you believe their top-5 preseason ranking last year was warranted and they should've been a legitimate national title contender.

Came here to say the same.
Won the PAC12 just last year.

There are a lot of people that are super pissed about this. It has nothing to do with money. SC has plenty of it. More to do with Swann's ego.
The only way to improve will be to spend on staff and change almost every staff member. That will cost them.
This is just too big of a job for Clay.
He was successful his first couple of years only because of Sam Darnold's ability. The teams have not gotten any better as the season progresses and that is coaching. They are soft and don't play to the end.

Check out his winning percentage in games where Sam Darnold didn't start and get back to me. It's abysmal.
Our only hope is that they hire ace OC/DC/S&C/SPT coaches and just let Clay be the "hands off, nice guy at the helm".
Based on recent decisions SC has made, I'm not optimistic.

Yikes. I actually feel sorry for a team more than my own. That sucks USC

This is strictly by default. SC simply cannot afford his buyout, plus a new coach's salary. They have some serious shite they're dealing with right now. Football is on the back burner.
Like what?

Campus doctor basically sexually assaulting students during exams over countless years; lawsuits all over the place now because of it; medical school dean (now former) banging prostitutes while doing hardcore drugs all over LA hotels; president pushed out as a result of the forgoing and still in search of a new one.
Great stuff SC

Say what you want, that's a classy message.

I'm an Arizona fan, and this is great news for the Pac 12 South.
I mean, I doubt Sumlin will capitalize, but it's nice to have hope.

Frankly, with the efforts being made to retain guys who rightly should be on the bubble (Gus, Helton), it validates my opinion the HC pool is fairly shallow at present.
ADs seem content to keep the devil they know, under whatever financial structure that makes sense, unless a flashy hire can be made - especially upper quintile teams.

That's exactly how Alleva said it about Miles.
Miles was fired 5 games later.
