actual real update on this: LINK

Two sources, including one connected to Briles, said Briles would take the Texas job if offered. Briles recently signed a new, 10-year contract at Baylor that includes a $4 million buyout, which one high-ranking UT source called “a little daunting.”

I think art briles would be a great hire

He is a legend among the high school coaches and what he's done at Baylor is tremendous.

However, a high-ranking UT source said no committee meeting has been scheduled and it’s unclear if the group will ever meet.

This is the part I find hilarious.

I've heard some rumblings about Alabama's Nick Saban continuing to be a possibility.
I asked a high-ranking official if I should give any credence to the scuttlebutt.
"No," the source texted me.

Oh no, TheDoc is going to not like that quote. Although, he's always been wrong and just moves the timeframe afterwards, he will still refute this article and maintain that Saban will be announced on Jan 2nd or the 3rd or the 4th or it could even be the 6th per his insider informant . LOL

All high ranking officials have been instructed to answer "no" about the saban scuttlebutt. The word getting out earlier almost ruined everything. They won't let that happen again.

Not to stir the pot, but did Saban ever officially sign his extension?

I really hope they hire him because I think he'd be a terrible fit. My personal feelings about him aside, I think he's an excellent football coach. And he fits perfectly at Baylor and will likely continue winning there long term. But Art Briles to UTx would be a complete trainwreck imo.

But it would be the perfect end to this trainwreck of a transition.

too much to say really. Art Briles has never met an ethical line he's not willing to cross. From steroids and recruiting in HS, to street agents, turning a blind eye to drug use and crime among his players, and coaching cheap shots, he's all-in.

None of that shite would fly in Austin among portions of the BMDs. Speaking of which, he doesn't want to fund raise or deal with them at Baylor. And he's got an absolutely acerbic personality which makes putting his mug on camera on improv a scary proposition. My personal experience with him made me want to punch him in the face and I had zero background on him the first time we met.

Good football coach. Terrible fit at UTx. He needs to stay in the shadows lest we see more Gary Patterson type rants as well as a lot of investigative journalism

Quite possibly But I don't think that's going to go over well there either, at least not for a while yet

I have to admit, seeing how far the bears would go would make it entertaining. They'd be like y'alls psycho ex on meth and they might cut off a steers head and leaving it in his bed.

Okay, so does UT consider a coach that was just released from an NFL job since probably 5-6 will end up unemployed?

Yeah, Briles is not the guy for UT and Patterson just doesn't seem right either. I'd assume UT's recruiting is almost nonexistent for the upcoming signing class.

If they can't get O'Brien from Penn St, or Golden from Miami, than the Mack Brown firing was not smart. Unless they can somehow persuade Chip Kelly.

Shannahan seems like a safe, relatively short term hire

According to Wikipedia (I know) both of his kids are UT grads.

tmc94, curious about this statement - would you please elaborate - are you a coach or what? thanks.

not a coach. I met him at a charity function right after he was named the coach at UH. I interacted with 30-40 guests that night as an unpaid volunteer. I had a positive experience with every single one but him.
