USL wants us to hire their coach so bad.

For every Chris Petersen coming out of the g5 there’s a Scott Frost, Tom Herman, Justin Fuente, Mike Norvell, and a Neal Brown.

I like him, he may end up being successful, it’s still a massive risk

Out of those 5 names, only two have categorically failed and only has been fired.
Neal Brown and Norbert are too early to call, and Herman was a good coach with decent results and good wins who just rubbed the administration at Texas the wrong way.

“This passed week”

Sounds about right from USL.

ETA: and personally I love the LSU&A&MC moniker from little brother. Wish I could pat him on the head and give him a lollipop.

Spin baby spin!!

They have all been failures:

Tom Herman was, by definition, a failure. Even if he isn’t a bad coach, he objectively didn’t do what the hired him to do and he was fired. Being so toxic that the boosters run you out of town does not get him a pass.

Frost is on his 4th losing season in a row

Norvell sucks pretty hard so far but it is just year 2 I guess.

Fuente got run out of town

I guess if you think West Virginia is a horrible job then being .500 after 3 years then Neal Brown is okay? I guess?

Norvel doesn’t suck, but he may be in over his head trying to fix the culture of that program. It’s a complete ground up rebuild at this point. However, he’s actually recruiting quite well considering the lack of on-field success so far.

Same with Herman. He didn’t suck as a coach, but he allowed that team to develop a terrible culture that is really showing itself now. They were soft and had all kinds of discipline issues.

These two are good examples of how really good G5 coaches often don’t fully translate to the next level, even if they do one or more things well.

West Virginia is a bad job, yes...They're also a bumpkin satellite in a dying conference, so Neal Brown going to his second consecutive bowl in his first three years is more than commendable...Norbert does suck, but he does have them on a hot streak and he's recruiting very well in Trashlahassee...Nebraska is a dead program, but Frost does suck, I agree, but he hasn't been canned...Fuente did well enough to start and arguably shouldn't have been fired, but he failed in most regards.

Which is the point

None of the results those 5 coaches have had coming from g5 would be considered a win for Napier at a place like LSU or Florida. It’s undeniably a big risk.

It may end up working out, and if he were our coach I would give him the benefit of the doubt and see what happened, but it’s quite a dice roll.

it could happen. riley strings woodward out long enough to get his former boss' brother a new job at LSU.
