There is no doubt in my mind that Coach Lotief was fired for calling out the Athletic Director and other Administration Officials for not funding ULL's softball program to anywhere remotely close to baseball.

If this is true, it's borderline insanity. ULL has one of the nicest softball facilities in the country.

It's better than some team's baseball facilities.

quote:

Often called the most beautiful and nostalgic field in the country by opposing teams who play on it, Lamson Park went through a $2.1 million renovation from 2009-11.

The renovation included a new mostly-covered grandstand between dugouts, three private luxury boxes and a 50-seat Stadium Club. There was also the addition of more seating beyond the outfield fence. All of these new seats bring the capacity of Lamson Park up to 2,790.

Also included in the renovations was a new press box with three broadcast booths, a larger and more functional locker room that includes a technology-driven meeting room and new scoreboard in right field that debuted in 2010.

In 2007, the UL Athletics Department oversaw the construction of the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility. Equipped with an artificial playing surface and drop-down batting cages, it is located adjacent to the softball field.

A few other changes were made in 2006. The right field and left field foul lines were adorned by brick walls. Another major construction project involved new dugouts for both the Cajuns and the visiting team – adding to the new and improved look of the facility and providing the biggest square footage dugouts you will find in the country.

The batting cages down the right field line were expanded in 2006. The new design allowed the Ragin’ Cajuns access to six different cages at once and was able to accommodate several teams at once when Louisiana hosted a tournament.

Rajun Cajuns

Remember, this facility is at a non-Power 5 conference school with a limited budget. Yet it's better than what some SEC schools have, and probably what every Big 12 or ACC have.

How much better does the softball coach at ULL need? The Cajuns were 47-8 last season.

A really nice grandstand but the unpadded wooden picket fence for an outfield wall is pathetic, it also has no warning track. The unpadded brick in foul territory is poor architecture too.

I hear what you're saying, but let me show you another park to compare with...

Southern Miss Softball Complex

This is what a school with a similar budget has. ULL's Lamson Park blows USM's away.

I get that some things might be improved, but we all know ULL ain't made out of money, and what the softball team has already is pretty darn good.

Most teams would be grateful to have 3/4 of what ULL's team has in the way of facilities.

It's a $80,000 Jaguar with bad brakes and no seat belts and I guarantee he and the administration have argued about the wall issues.

y'all even discussing this issue of ULL softball on a message board and the intricacies of a college softball budget is embarrassing.

when you find out the guy was fuc!ing the players or embezzling funds..now.....THAT'S interesting

Until extremely recently the school budget for baseball and football was a combined 0 dollars and 0 cents. Robe and Girard/TheLotiefs had to raise every single penny for their programs.

Was like that for every Spring sport. Former President Ray Authement basically let athletics bleed dry. He even put restrictions on self-fundraising and how coaches could solicit donations for their programs. Refused to allow an RCAF to be set up, etc.

All softball student-athletes will have the opportunity to meet with members of the administration to discuss transfer procedures. Upon meeting with administrators and submitting a written request, student-athletes will be granted permission to contact, allowing the student-athlete to speak with coaches from any university other than those on the 2018 UL softball schedule and within the Sun Belt Conference. Student-athletes receiving permission to contact will be eligible to receive athletically related institutional financial aid and to practice.

LSU could use 3 of those gals....

Like a post I posted the other day, it was funny that Nick Torina followed Sanders and Craighton all of a sudden....

Literally might not mean anything but if what you are saying is true about the softball team having the options to transfer, LSU would take both players in a heart beat. Less than a hour away come on down too, extremely convenient. Allows the opportunity to play at home essentially and compete for a national title with a loaded pitching staff

Sanders would immediately step in at 2B and Craighton would possibly land the last OF spot.

Never happen. The nice people from The university of Louisiana hates her guts for going to the enemy after she built up the softball program and merely wanted to get paid what she was worth.

We're also told that the university gave the players who want to leave the team, a list of colleges that they may not contact.

That list includes universities on the 2018 UL softball schedule, as well as, all colleges and universities in Louisiana.

Florida is on their schedule. Bama is not. Come on down, ladies and boost Bama back into the top 3 of the SEC.

Not all of us do, and some of those who did have since made nice.

I never blamed her for leaving. Not only did she want and deserve to get paid for her accomplishments and what she could do at a P5 program, but she also wanted to work for a university president that didn’t treat her like dog shite.

from what I read, they are granting no releases.
They should grant them.
They fired him for alleged abuse...reading the documents, the have a strong case. BUT, the university/athletic department has some vicarious liability here. This wasn't the first time, so they probably knew and if they didn't, they should have.

Wonder (as I said in a previous post) if they even contacted Alyson Habetz and tried to bring her back “home”?

Prolly should’ve been their priority....

That being said I know nothing about college softball, but she seems like a great fit. Girl from Acadia parish, was a stud at ULL (USL) and has coached at a big time SEC program.

Pretty sure they tried to get Murphy not Habetz and LSU/Baton Rouge isn’t what I would consider home for her.

Murphy actually accepted and had a press conference in Baton Rouge with Habetz there and coming with him. The next morning he changed his mind and decided to go back to Bama. Joe then offered the job to Allison. She declined.
