Turner Gill got Charlie Strong'd

According to Mark Schlabaugh this morning on Outside The Lines, when he asked some SEC coaches if Gill would get the AU job they said he wouldn't because Gill has a white wife. This has been cited as a reason why Charlie Strong of Florida is constantly passed over too. Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure all of the other SEC coaches have white wives, too. There has to be more to it than that.

Gill was at freaking Buffalo!! How do you go from Buffalo to Auburn?? I am tired of all this black coaches bullshite!! I guess we should just fire all the white coaches and hire black coaches so that we don't hear the word 'racism' but of course, that still wouldn't be enough.

It's not a black and white issue, no pun intended. It may have been on td.com, but someone made what I think is a good point a few wks ago...that there are more white coaches available b/c they've made the decision early on to pursue that track vs. black coaches that are fewer in numbers b/c most black football players are concentrating on making it to the next level vs. a career in coaching.

Personally, how do you go from Iowa St with a loosing record to Auburn? I am not screaming fowl play, but I am thinking Auburn screwed up on this hire. On paper Gill looked a hell of a lot better. Just my opinion.

What was classic was Barkley demanding his alma mater hire a black coach, regardless of qualification.
This mentality by the general media of "having to have" a black coach has become absurd. If every team with an opening hired a black coach except one, what do you think would be said about the one team that didn't? Probably something about the coaches wife being white. . .

My personal opinion is that anyone who uses racism as their generic "catch-all" excuse has less intelligence than the lower 1% of rant posters.
