You are absolutely right! Jazen needed help long before this and they dropped the ball, he should’ve been receiving treatment ! The guy he killed had a relationship with the mom I believe!!

Guidry gave up TWO plays over 15 yds last season as the DC... The whole f-ing year at Marshall. ..two plays.

He is elite.

It was Tesra’s ( Jazen’s mother) boyfriend. They were together for a while. And most definitely Jazen had something wrong. I know another poster thought I was full of sh*t by saying it earlier but it is a fact. The state health department even testified to it. Back then no one was talking about what concussions were doing to the brain.
I am a little bias but I agree with several of you that Lance puts a very competitive defense on the field no matter where he goes.

So I guess all the players that committed suicide and their brains were sent for research didn’t have any CTE issues either?

In Viator's last year I was randomly a McNeese booster and attended a lot of the weekly luncheons. Guidry would sub for Viator ever so often and you could tell the room was enamored with him. I was always like "what is wrong with y'all?" but you couldn't convince them he wasn't a superstar prodigal son. I think many were relieved when Viator left so they could hire Guidry.

Many of them live in a bubble and were convinced that if they hired Guidry, who played and coached at McNeese, he would never entertain other jobs at larger programs. Then he interviewed for the DB Coach at Florida State and they got butthurt. Prior to that, Guidry was open about not being scared to hire young guys that were on the way up and probably wouldn't be at McNeese for long. This also rubbed the McNeese bluebloods who live in that bubble the wrong way.

There’s a lot of old men that still believe it’s the 90s and nothing has changed. Pretty sad.

Yup. Much like Nebraska fans but on a lower level. As proud of a program as McNeese has, they have not won a post season game since December 2002.

Nicholls and Southeastern becoming considerably better programs recently could also have something to do with McNeese’s demise

In recent years, but I was referring to the drop off from the 90s until today. McNeese was in playoffs nearly every year and played in a Semi-Final and two Finals in a 7 year period (1995-2002). IMO, the changing landscape of college football had more to do with it than anything.

In that timeframe, there wasn't a ton of difference between McNeese and what we would call today a Group of 5 school. McNeese could win and instate recruiting battle against a Tulane, La Tech, or ULL. Due to the facility upgrades these schools have been able to make with the money that started rolling in the past 20 years, McNeese (or any other FCS school for that matter) is not winning that recruiting battle today. Facility wise, the gap between a G5 program and FCS is now huge. Bowl games were still kinda cool in those days too, but there were only 18 of them. The FCS playoffs could be an attractive pitch as opposed to going somewhere where the likelihood of that school going to bowl was very slim.

Another is transfers. In the 90s and early 00s, it was common for a players to transfer all the way down to I-AA so they could play immediately. I can remember transfers from LSU and Arkansas at McNeese. Once the NCAA approved immediate playing time for grad transfers, this really slowed down kids transferring all the way down to FCS. Today's rules (everyone gets a one time transfer) effectively killed it.

Lance Guidry seems like a hype man. He’s a great addition to the staff but not someone you want running your entire program.

His defenses are very stout though and he’s walking into a good situation. I think this hire works out

Bashing Lance over anything Janzen did AT ANY point is simply wrong. I personally do not know Lance, but many people that I do know well, think highly off him. The coaching profession at the collegiate level takes an incredible toll on the personal lives of coaches and families. Everyone makes mistakes some dwell and repeat them others learn from them and move on.

Give the state of many schools in LA, bashing an asst coach for kids failing... bash their families and the schools that passed them.

Knew a guy who played for him and he said Guidry would always say “for every pair of white ankles in the secondary, was how many games they would lose” hahaha… kinda true lol
