I wouldn’t doubt that he interviewed more than once this offseason. But he’s only been a coordinator for one season. And he is only 35. A big reach right now.

for most places, yes. But, when you're colorado, you have to remember that recruiting is tough given geography and football remains a game of Jimmy and Joes.

Lupoi can do better. He can also be patient and get the gig at his Alma mater, California.

Probation coming to Boulder not long after. Won’t have the little fella’s clout to keep the NCAA at bay.

Maybe... but I think CU would be a good fit... both jobs are difficult places to win.

I think Colorado is very sensitive to NCAA scrutiny, thus would not touch Tosh.

Naw...that was all pre-Rick George. He went out and raised a LOT of cash to bring in top-notch facilities. Now this is his signature hire. His tenure/career depends on it. He is running this show.

At least that's one more than Jon Embree had when he got the job.

You think Cal will go back to back young DCs with defensive minded HCs?

He needs to take a page from Kirby’s playbook.

He’s 35. Wait for a job with a big payday and a big buyout.

That’s literally what he would be doing, if he waited on the Cal job. Going to the Alma mater like Kirby did.

Can’t speak to the veracity of this, but Derek Mason was discussed on 104.5 in Nashville today as being in the running. He knows the Pac 12 from his hitch as the Stanford DC.

He issued a fairly noncommittal statement:

“My sole focus at this particular time is on recruiting and preparing my team to win a bowl game for Vanderbilt University,” Mason said via text message on Tuesday. “As you see, we are continuing to build something very special here on West End.

“To comment on speculation at this time would be unfair to my student athletes and Vanderbilt University. Nashville is ‘Our City’! Commodore Nation…Anchor Down & Let’s Ride.”

The real reason to wait is to properly learn to run a program. A lot of coaches can coach quite well...but cant run a program. Kirbs was with Saban from the LSU days. He has been the only one to properly implement Saban's program.

The answer to that question might lie in Red Stick.
