I don't visit BOL but it doesn't surprise me. Personally I'm against it although I know it happens frequently.

It's a tactic employed when you aren't on even standing with a given player. So, if you are trying to flip a player that's not likely to flip...or recruiting a player who is a longer shot for some other reason.

In general, Alabama is selling Alabama.

Exactly. This is particularly true when you are trying to pull a kid from another state where it would be easier on the family if the kid stayed closer to home.

This is a response thread to the Raymond rumors. No biggie.

Raymond had 2 years left on his deal and LSU gave him a raise and and extension...and they announced it before the season was completed. If you don't think he was legitimately looking at other jobs then you are fooling yourself. So schools (plural) telling recruits that it looks like Raymond was leaving LSU were not negatively recruiting. They were sharing factual information. He was looking. LSU stepped up and paid the man to stay.

NS has come out and said that he does not condone negative recruiting. So I think it was just a lie.

Come on man. Saban is a competitor and is going to do whatever it takes to win. It's not like he's never violated recruiting rules. He's also said he was against things in the past, I.e. no huddle up-tempo offense, but here we are in 2016 and Bama is running a west coast offense in a power spread using no huddle.

You're assuming there is anything to this beyond a response thread rumor from LSU fans.

Is Tosh going to be mentioned for a job at UF? Sure. There is also a reason he's coached 9 seasons and hasn't been offered THE DC role somewhere yet. He's been given the co-DC title at Bama so he can have more money and so he can have more discussion into gameplanning. I don't think he's ready for the DC job yet, and I think UF would have to pay him - a guy who hasn't run a D before - $1M+ to get him to leave. Might happen, but those current players on their roster want Shannon and I'm not sure Mac is ready to hand over his D to a guy who has never been a coordinator before.

But it sure is fun for LSU fans to speculate.

I don't care either way, I'm only joking. But if he were to leave, I think Najee heads to UM.

BAMA fans know so much more about LSU than LSU fans do.

mrbroker, when "you have a program like he has at bama....". Why then did Bo Davis break the recruiting rules & subsequently get run off? He got run off because he got caught. Or do you think Bo did this one time & got caught one time? When it comes to recruiting, all bets are off with any program to some degree or another, do not kid yourself.

I'm not pretending to know the specifics of Raymond's situation. I do know that a guy who had 2 years remaining on his deal usually doesn't get an extension and a raise announced DURING season, unless he is a threat to leave and the current employer is trying to make a public statement that the coach is staying.

That seems to be the case here. Occum's Razor. It's more likely his potential to leave was genuine than it was made up.

He made contact during a dead period and he was let go for it. Every school has recruiting mistakes, but when you correct and punish, usually the NCAA feels no need for further penalties - particularly if the violations are secondary in nature.

Haven't heard anything substantial about Lupoi and UF.

Have heard about the following guys joining UF's staff potentially...

Mike Locksley
Jajuan Seider
Ed Reed

Unless he's the OC, he's not leaving WV.

I have no idea if florida needs or OC or not though.

Whatever happened with the rumor from the Bama "insiders" that Sark was drinking with players before the SECCG (or was it after)?

Again, that was only floated out in case he left for another school. Now that he's staying those pathetic bastards are burying that rumor.

i never said it never happened but NS in an interview a few years back said that Bama sells itself and there is no need to negative recruit. I understand Bama has more studs wanting to play for them then spaces available. So if this is true why the need to negative recruit on regular basis. Think USC during their hey day
