Texas really doesn't have a lot of instate competition at all. Texas is the first choice of almost every top high school prospect here. They have the highest percentage of home state players out of every team in CFB. They NEVER have to go out of state. Their only real competition is OU.

Florida is the number one choice of pretty much every top Florida recruit too. Recent FSU and Miami recruiting classes don't even compare. Take a look at UF's current class.

Alabama has Auburn to deal with and you still have Tennessee, LSU and other programs come in every so often, and it's a much more shallow pool of players - it's a smaller state. It's a talented state, but it's definitely not Texas or Florida...or even Louisiana for that matter.

That's why I reserved Tier 1a for UF and 1b for LSU.

I'm sorry, but jobs like OSU and Notre Dame are no longer as good as Texas, Florida, USC or LSU.

I don't give a frick how many championships Ohio State and Notre Dame won 50 years ago. They're not going to be able to consistently recruit the level of athletes as Florida, Texas or USC year in and year out in the current college football landscape.

The state of Texas is talent laden but is also home to several BCS conference in-state schools plus TCU. Then there is Oklahoma (often boasting 35-50% of its roster from TX) competing for that talent. Florida has 3 historically strong programs competing for its players (plus a couple of Johnnie-come-lately's). Louisiana, not so much. So basing opinions strictly on #'s of NFL players from one state or another is misleading unless you're going to divide that # by the # of BCS schools in the state.

Also naming just 2-3 "top-tier" programs is silly.

In terms of profits, the programs rank this way:

1. Texas
2. Notre Dame
3. Penn State
4. Nebraska
5. Alabama
6. Florida
7. LSU
8. Ohio State
9. Georgia
10. Oklahoma

Of interest on that list --- No USC, No Michigan, and otherwise not one Pac10 or ACC team.

USC is by far the best job in America.

It's got a prime location, fertile recruiting grounds - a virtual monopoly of the west coast and whoever else they want, plus it's just a sexy program. Where else can boast beaches, movie stars, Hollywood, and an NFL like notoriety...

Tier 1 jobs:

USC, Bama, Georgia, LSU, UF, Texas, OU, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan

it varies on who's winning. Bama right now. A couple of years ago it was LSU/UF. When a school starts losing, it's amazing how fast their stock drops.
