I have been impressed with him the 2x he played LSU. He is intense and his teams were well prepared. Remember he has been very limited in his stay at La Tech. I think he is a complete opposite from Boy Kiffin and with time I think yall will be pleased. The guy must feel like he has died and gone to heaven with this expected opportunity.

Agreed, they will be pleased with little time to think about it. The real winner in all of this are the Tennessee fans. Kiffin is nothing but trouble your better off without him.

the guy is a great coach, he is sharp as hell, why do you think Saban took him to the dolphins with him?...think Saban takes guys just for shits and giggles?...hell i think he only took two, Muschamp and Dooley...What does that tell you...and he'll make a name for himself, Tenn did real well on this hire...If I were a Tenn fan I'd be real happy...

Since when did this become the criteria for hiring a head coach for a major BCS program.

Saban's asst coaches are yet to be coaching stars in major BCS conferencs
- Muschamp (if you consider him a protege) is still not a HC
- Dooley's record at Tech is not anything to crow about

I am not talking about potential - but more about realized potential in the form of actual w/l records under their belts.

Its really nice to see these comments on Coach Dooley. I think everyone in Vol Nation was shocked, mad, and sad on Tuesday when the news broke. What really hurts is losing our top 6 recrutiing class, but the more I learn about Derrick the more I like him. I think we swapped a sleezy, prick, scumbag, coach who is in all for himself, for a coach that has more class than Lane Kiffin and his entire staff. I was not thrilled with the hire but the more I think about it the more I like it. I am looking foward to the game next year at Baton Rouge, I am thinking about making the trip and I know we are going to get run out of the building but I still think it would be awsome to go to one of the best places in college football to watch a game.

I agree with that, he's not the splashy "name" hire but he'll do just fine.

Dooley is a good coach. I was hoping he'd take over at LSU about 5 years from now.

Dooley's a great recruiter and he gets the La Tech players to perform. Doesnt have the best win-loss records but at a team with the prestige of Tennessee, he will do a great job

On the one hand - the rant is filled with threads that keep proclaiming that arrogance/anal behavior/crappy nature/personal failings - all don't matter as long as you win. It doesn't matter if you are a nice guy or not - all that matters are dominance and WINS with small losses.

Then on the other hand it is filled with this all-encompassing acceptance and love for Dooley not just as a coach for an SEC school but also as a step up from Kiffin!

Kiffin is a douche - zero personal integrity - lies all the time - depends on daddy etc.... you can write books about his nature

BUT - he does have a good recruiting team (whether you hate it or not is irrelevant) he does have a good DC ( who will be with him till the end of time) He did bring enthusiasm into the program ( he crapped on tradition but they were fine with it and would have continued to be so if he were still there).

WHY is an unproven Dooley a good choice in the long run for them other than being a good guy in comparison to Kiffin.

I can understand if the only issue were about human natures and in that case half the convicts might come out with more personal integrity than Kiffin but this is about long term view in D1- BCS - SEC school.

When AU hired Chizik , everyone laughed at them and probably still do, everyone laughed at Weis at ND, and some still make fun of the 4th choice Lane at USC - but a WAC coach with a substandard record is going to be great for UT in the long term just because he is a better person than Kiffin ?
